The Yal kú cove is one of the Caribbean corners with which you will surely be surprised on your way. In this exit from the fresh groundwater to the open sea, you will enjoy a unique landscape.
Along the coast of Riviera Maya we find different landscapes such as that of Yal-kú: the fresh waters that run through the water table of the Peninsula making their way to the sea, artistically eroding the limestone. Here the sweet and salty waters meet, in a delicate ecosystem that we must take care of.
CALETA YAL KÚ, CENOTE YAL KÚ OR LAGUNA YAL KÚ IN AKUMAL
In these three ways you can find the place written: as a cove, cenote or lagoon.
The best-known coves of this coastal strip are the Xel-ha water park and Park of Xcaret. Both coves became Tourist parks with great visitor success. They are strong claims for mass tourism that comes to Riviera Maya and really the place where they are located is extraordinary.
Yal Kú cove would become the poor sister of the others, or the most authentic and unknown. Yal-Kú's landscape has nothing to envy the others.
I'm more from places like caleta Yal-kú that of XelHá or Xcaret. These parks, when modified by man, make them lose their charm as paraje natural, something that I prioritize in my tastes.
SWIM IN LAGUNA YAL KÚ
After paying the entrance fee and renting snorkeling equipment, you can bring your own, you will be ready to discover among colorful fish one of the most beautiful landscapes of this Mexican coast plagued with paradises.
As you swim in these irresistible crystal clear waters you enjoy the life hidden by the roots of the mangroves, of the birds in their habitat, the different salt and fresh water fish. Here two ecosystems merge where fauna and flora must know how to survive between salty and sweet, two worlds of very different densities.
An amazing world awaits you from the viewer, it is really nice to see the mangrove roots and the inhabitants of this beautiful lagoon.
ENJOY THE HALOCLINES IN LAGOON YALKU
Discovering the aquatic landscape of this place is very entertaining. You can swim towards the ocean, just watch carefully with the currents. The mangrove, the great treasure as a natural regulator of this ecosystem, gathers among its roots a large part of the life of its inhabitants. It is simply beautiful to observe this private place with the mask.
Another thing to experience are haloclines, blurry effect that is created from the mixture of fresh and salty waters. When you see blurred, it is not necessarily your mask misted, it is that you are in a halocline, very dreamlike.
Yalku cove offers you the best opportunities on the Caribbean coast to enjoy haloclines. Play and enjoy the environment, nature provides us with impressive playgrounds.
LAGUNA YALKÚ 2020 PRICES, TIMETABLE AND SERVICES
When we arrived in 2007 to live in the Mexican Caribbean, the Yal kú lagoon was not one of the most visited places and the prices were very popular. We could affirm that in Riviera Maya nothing or almost nothing is cheap, but if we compare the price of YalKú cove with the tickets to XelHá or Xcaret, both coves too, we can say that it is economical.
- ADULT TICKET PRICE: 280 Mexican pesos.
- PRICE FOR CHILDREN FROM 4 TO 12 YEARS OLD: 200 Mexican pesos.
- EQUIPMENT RENTAL: 100 pesos each part of the equipment, either the vest, visor or fins. You can bring your own equipment.
- HOURS: from 9 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon daily.
CAN I ENTER THE LAGOON YAL KÚ WITH FOOD?
If you go in with some snacks they won't tell you anything, but the plan is not to go with the ice chest, the tortillas and all the food. There are nearby restaurants to eat. With the bracelet that you place at the entrance you can enter and exit without problem until 4 in the afternoon.
HOW CAN I TAKE CARE OF THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT OF LAGUNA YALKÚ?
- Do not use sunscreen in the water, and if you use it it is biodegradable. Personally, I prefer to cover my body with a special lycra shirt for water, and so I do not cover my body with creams. These creams are harmful to water, and many of us visit these places.
- Also don't use insect repellents if you are going to enter the water, neither chemical nor natural repellents.
- Take with you all the trash you generate, or put it in a garbage can.
- You can bring your own thermos or bottled water bottle so as not to be buying plastic bottles.
- If you see someone who does not follow the rules, you can painfully express your thinking assertively and politely: caring for the environment belongs to everyone and by everyone.
WHAT ELSE TO DO IN AKUMAL
Caleta Yal-kú is one of my favorite places on the Mexican Caribbean coast. In Akumal you have options to spend a day more than fabulous. You swimming with turtles in Akumal in their natural habitat, eat in The good life and end the day discovering the caleta Yal-Kú.
I assure you that this menu is a happiness pill, but you will tell me. And of cherry, in turtle spawning season, stroll along the beach at night and watch them spawn. Akumal is a jewel, really, and the cove of YalKú its most hidden treasure.
Do not miss Akumal, don't miss Yal-ku. It is almost a mandatory visit in Riviera Maya?
Yal-kú, nature
LOCATION: Yal-kú is located in Akumal, 3 km from the entrance to the beach. Akumal is located 37 km from Playa del Carmen and 26 from Tulum.SCHEDULE AND SERVICES: open every day from 8 a.m. to 17:30 p.m. Sundays is the busiest day. There are showers, lockers, bathrooms, rental of snorkel equipment, palapas and a restaurant. There is parking. The use of non-biodegradable body creams is not allowed, nor is it allowed to feed the fish. I recommend you bring your own snorkeling equipment.
PRICE ENTRY: 280 pesos adults, children 200 (14 usd and 10 usd). Discount for locals in Quintana Roo, take your ID: 173 adults, 115 pesos children (9 dollars adult and 6 usd children). Equipment rental: visor or mask. fins and vest 100 pesos (5 usd), and a locker or locker 58 pesos (3 dollars).
HOW TO GET IN PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION? Buses leave from Tulum on the main street. From Cancun (the collective They leave near the ADO terminal) you must get off at the last stop in Playa del Carmen and from here take another bus to Akumal (from calle 2 between avenida 15 y 20). Public transport leaves you on federal highway 307, on the bridge at the entrance of the town (tell the driver, he knows). From here you walk 1 km to the beach. The ADO (large bus) does not stop in Akumal, you must go by bus. There is service taxis at the entrance of Akumal to Yal-kú (which is 3 km). At the exit of the cove, they call you a taxi if you need it.

Hello Alejandro, I hope you get the answer in this way. From Playa del Carmen you take the federal 307 towards Tulum and you exit at the exit indicating Akumal to dry (there are several). From the deviation of the federal you have it to 3 kilometers by a perfectly indicated path, sure you will see it easy. Enjoy the place, good way!
You can cook there I say if we have a grill or it is forbidden
He said, now you are holding me without a sure answer. There are palapas, but I do not know if they allow you to have a barbecue, although I beg you not. Sorry I have no answer Erik. Regards!
The cost of the ticket is 200 pesos?
Yes, if you are from Quintana Roo, take your ID we have discount.
Hello, a doubt. If you are a foreigner but you have lived in Cancun for 10 years for work and have a family here in Mexico (you have not processed resd permn yet) you have identification as a Licentiate of handling and curp and of all work in Cancun. Can the Quintana Roo promotion be valid? First of all, Thanks!
Hello Cesia, I am quite convinced that presenting the driver's license of Quintana Roo will give you a discount. If not, hopefully you will explain it to us to be well informed. Regards cordilesy to enjoy the cove a lot 🙂
hi, is it necessary to hire a tour to see turtles in akumal? If so, could you recommend me some super economic? Apart from the cove of yal ku, what other places do you recommend visiting there in akumal to spend all my day there? Could you recommend me somewhere to eat fresh and super economical seafood? I'm not looking for comfort or comfort, thanks ...
Hello Edgar, it is not necessary to hire a tour, if you swim well and you have confidence, you can go without any problem for free and you will easily see the turtles. Rent lockers and equipment on the beach, if necessary. I'm sorry to tell you that in Akumal, nothing is very cheap. There is an economic food stand before the entrance of the arch of the Akumal Bay hotel on the right. You have the restaurant La Buena Vida on the way to the Yal-Kú creek, which is not so expensive and is a beautiful place. To eat economically in the part of the interior of Akumal, on the other side of the federal highway. The Bay of Akumal is long to walk, and has good snorkeling all the beach. Nothing else that I can recommend.
Good way!
I appreciate the attention to my message and the comments are very useful for me
Hello, will they know if I can put food and water ???
Also if there is parking for the car.
Thanks for your help; we plan to go in July
Hello Vicky, there is parking for the car. I think you can enter food. It is a safe and quiet place.
Very good trip!
Dear Sandra good afternoon,
We are my family and I to leave this weekend for the peninsula, I found your page by chance, I saw in the comments of the 200 pesos, where they charge these, in the cove in a spa ?, and another doubt, in a cove for the cenote is there somewhere where I can sit?
Thanks for your attention.
Hi Sandra, I hope you enjoy the holidays a lot.
The 200 pesos charge them at the entrance to the Yalkú cove, inside the enclosure of the Yalkú creek there are palapas and sidewalks to accommodate you in the area. Sorry, I did not understand the question about the cenote, in the mere cove there is no cenote.
Any other questions, I'm glad to support you.
Regards,
Sandra, you are very kind, good afternoon, I saw that there is a cenote, or so they put it in google map, your information is very helpful, I will tell you how it was.
Greetings.
Hello! if we are from the tepeyac institute of guadalajara, do they discount us the same as in xel-ha exlpor and xcaret?
thanks!
Hi Rocio, I can not assure you but I doubt it. I think the discount is only to Quintana Roo, not to students of the Republic.
Happy Holidays!
Hi Sandra, I found this great blog this evening by chance. We are a family from the Canary Islands that will travel to the Yucatan Peninsula in mid August. I am organizing everything via internet and I have rented a little house in Tulum for 3 nights. Besides Tulum, Akumal and Yalku, I plan to visit the Sian Ka'an reserve and some cenote in those few days. If you are so kind, I wanted to ask you for a local agency that will take us to the reserve and if you advise us of a recommended cenote that does not have a very difficult access (I have 64 years and problems on my knees). From Tulum we went to Coba-Chichen Itza and Mérida, so your blog is coming to me wonderfully, because I see that you do not like the tourist masses either, and instead, yes and a lot of the culture. Barcelona is now invaded by tourists and the Canary Islands too !. If you advise me of a local agency for car rentals and good places to eat in Tulum, I will thank you too. I thought you understand that you live in Tulum and I am amazed at the prices of everything in the Mayan Riviera: it looks like Northern Europe, including cars ... You really enjoy your stay in that place that promises to be great ... maybe as much as my 7 islands (so beautiful and so different from each other). I do not know if you have visited them, if you come, do not hesitate to do the same as I do now with you. We live in front of the beach ... A hug. María Asunción
I am glad that you serve the blog María Asunción, a great trip awaits you in these lands. Cenote you can go to Gran Cenote, at 4 kilometers from Tulum http://goo.gl/jVP7qE The prices in the Tulum area are crazy, you are absolutely right. Car agencies I can recommend two, although there are many, but by own experience or readers of the blog: American Car Rental1 and Price Car Rental. About local agencies let me write you in a couple of days, I know few personally.
I have never been to your wonderful islands, and I have no forgiveness for my sister-in-law lives in Lanzarote and I have very dear friends over there. I thank you for the offer María Asunción, a pleasure to help you.
A hug,
Hello Sandra, I already understood that the cost is 200 pesos but if I have the vests and the snorkel I can take it? And can I still eat food? You comment that the entrance sell food at a good price I would appreciate an answer
Hello Victor, if you can take your equipment without problems. There they sell food and before the cove is the restaurant La Buena Vida, which is on the beach. Best regards, have a great time!
Hello, the entrance price for foreigners of how much it is.
Hello, 200 pesos per person.
Regards,
Hi, I would like to know the lagoon, but I would like to know how much the ticket would cost me, I am from Playa del Carmen?
Hello Valentine, I'm sorry I do not have the exact answer, I should ask the next time. I owe you
Regards!
Hello Sandra,
Could you give me the YalKu phone to book in advance one of the private palapitas ...
Greetings that you are well
Hello Vinicio, I'm sorry I can not help you, I have not gotten the contact phone.
It tastes bad to me, best regards.
rent vests?
They rent, I do not remember the price.
hello sandra very good blog I am from guadalajara and I have planned to travel in March to playa del carmen and there will be my starting point to all sides and among my plans is to visit yalku and akumal you will not have the updated yalku prices as I will travel with My wife and my four children and if you could recommend me a car rental agency that is good, I'll appreciate your answer, thank you.
Hello, I usually update the prices even though they are old tickets. From Yalkú I think they are correct, so you do not get scared, put at most 50 more pesos. When I have rented I have done it with American Car Rental, with whom I do not take last minute surprises. If you do it online, they had cheaper prices.
I hope you serve the information, best regards.
Enjoy the trip very much, any doubt here you find me 🙂
Hello, maybe I'll be in a couple of months in Akumal if you watch the fish
I did not understand the comment, sorry.
