Since our first backpacking trip as a couple in 2000, we have been accompanied by the idea of living in a wonderful place and sharing our home with travelers, friends and visitors. This dream has come true in El Cuyo, a port on the Yucatecan coast that stole our hearts. In Cuyo we enjoy a privileged place as a destination of nature and calm.
Can Cocal is the dream of creating a lodging with soul, with a warm and close treatment, where you can rest and disconnect, where you can eat deliciously, a place that you remember with affection and joy in every way.
OUR DREAM: HOTEL IN EL CUYO, YUCATÁN?
We projected our dream of the little hotel for years, in each of our trips we were accompanied by this idea on a recurring basis, we were weaving it without realizing it between talks and kilometers. We wanted to live in a place that we fell in love with.
Since the first time we visited El Cuyo in 2011, this little paradise on the Yucatecan coast has been entangled in our hearts. This beautiful beating has led us to our dream: we build a hotel in El Cuyo, Can Cocal, our home?
Our hotel in El Cuyo is located within the Ría Lagartos Biosphere Reserve, a privileged place of nature where the flamenco of the Caribbean is the icon of the place. Here other natural wonders await you, if you like nature and calm you have come to the right place.

Welcome to Can Cocal, we open the doors of our house for you to enjoy El Cuyo. Can Cocal means the home of the coconut palms. Dog is a Catalan word that means home, and coca It is how the land with coconut palms is called in Yucatan. The Catalan and Yucatecan culture are the basis of Can Cocal, added to other cultural seasonings that complement Can Cocal?
If one thing was clear to us, it is that Can Cocal would be imbued with the essence of this land that has given us so much: chukum walls (stucco used by the ancient Maya in their cities), henequen and liana crafts (products from the area), details of the Mayan culture in each room and of course the hammock (one of the great inventions of humanity in our opinion?).
The satisfaction of creating and decorating relying on artisans that we have known for years thanks to our work of The Shortest Way. They are many years learning and knowing, the dream could not be anywhere else.
We recycle the coconut palms that we cut down to dress the rooms, they are part of Can Cocal, who gains strength and charm with each of the thoughtful details. We are sorry, and we hope that energy reaches you.

Can Cocal offers 6 rooms, each one personalized with its unique touch. The rooms are decorated with materials and crafts from the Yucatan Peninsula. Part of our great satisfaction has been choosing and buying local products with old and new friends we have known for years.
2 rooms on the ground floor, 2 on the second level and 2 on the third level. Let's meet them?
- LA AMARILLA: double room with 2 queen beds (large), on the ground floor with views of the Playita de Can Cocal and the pool. Private bathroom, air conditioning, fan and wifi. Spacious room of 32 square meters.
- LA BEIGE: double room with 2 queen beds (large), on the ground floor with views of the Playita de Can Cocal and the pool. Spacious room of 32 square meters.
- THE RED: room with king bed (extra large) for 2 people. Private bathroom, air conditioning, fan and wifi. Located on the second floor. 32 meters of room and 22 meters of terrace with sea views.
- LA BLUE: room with king bed (extra large) for 2 people. Private bathroom, air conditioning, fan and wifi. Located on the second floor. 32 meters of room and 10 meters of terrace with views towards the lagoon.
- THE ORANGE: room with king bed (extra large) for 2 people. Private bathroom, air conditioning, fan and wifi. Located on the second floor. 32 meters of room and 10 meters of terrace, and access to the roof top of 32 square meters with an exclusive bathtub and views of the sea and the lagoon.

LA COCINA DE CAN COCAL: we have a restaurant where we offer breakfast, lunch and dinner. In Can Cocal you have all the facilities for your comfort.
LA PLAYITA DE CAN COCAL: on our beach of coconut palms and white sand, we have a space with a pool for relaxation. We offer food and beverage service on our beach, so that our guests can enjoy their rest exclusively.
OUR TEAM: The team is the soul of Can Cocal, we are the engine, the desire and the illusion of this dream that we want to share with you. Each of us has the best disposition to make your stay a nice memory.
CAN COCAL RESTAURANT
Our menu is a mix of traditional tapas from Catalonia and Spain, with a Mexican touch. Our most influential cultures blend naturally for us. We live on the coast, so the base is seafood.
We will love that you taste our traditional Mediterranean flavors such as papas bravas, gazpacho or the variety of homemade croquettes, and Yucatecan flavors such as crab from the port, ceviches, xec or guacamole. For vegetarians and vegans we have dishes such as lentil ceviche, xec salad, guacamole, gazpacho or mushroom and spinach croquettes.
The breakfasts we offer are organic products with patio eggs, homemade sourdough bread, homemade jams, homemade yogurt, seasonal fruit and fresh juices. And we put an emphasis on Mexican breakfasts: enchiladas, slaps, chilaquiles. We hope you enjoy the flavors.
From the kitchen of can Cocal they always give us the best of them. Good love in the kitchen is the basis, and the kitchen is the heart of Can Cocal.
