HOW TO GO FROM CANCUN TO PLAYA DEL CARMEN AND TULUM
All public transports that leave Cancun to Playa del Carmen do so from the same area in Cancun. They are all located near the Cancun Central Bus Terminal, in downtown Cancun. We know this terminal as the ADO terminal (pronounces adeo).
As you see the three options of how to get from Cancun to Playa del Carmen they are very close:
- ADO BUSES: ADO is the best known bus company in Southeast Mexico. There are other companies in the terminal that are going to Cancun to Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
- COLECTIVOS PLAYA EXPRESS: is a private transport company
- FOREIGN COLLECTIVE SERVICE: belongs to a taxi drivers union
All transportation options for go from cancun to playa del carmen They make a stop in Puerto Morelos, the town that is halfway between Cancun and Playa del Carmen: From Cancun to Tulum it is also very easy to go, we will see it too.
WHAT IS A COLLECTIVE?
We have seen that to go from Cancun to Playa del Carmen there are buses (in Mexico they are called trucks) and also buses. WHAT IS A COLLECTIVE? If you are not used to the language here we will explain it to you. It is simply a van, a combi as they call it elsewhere.
This van transport carries fewer people and goes faster. What you're most interested in knowing is that they stop where you tell the driver. Just as the bus has fixed stops, the bus stops where you want. This makes it the ideal option depending on your destination.
To take a bus in the middle of the road, all you have to do are signs for the driver to stop, and they pick you up right there. WHAT SHOULD YOU TAKE INTO ACCOUNT? Many times they are full and will not stop at intermediate stops. You have to be patient.
- CAN I TRAVEL WITH LUGGAGE IN THE BUS? I don't recommend it to go with big suitcases, that's what the bus is for. You can go with your hand luggage without problem.
- CAN I TRAVEL IN THE BUS WITH A PET? It's not allowed.
- IS THERE AIR CONDITIONING IN THE BUS? Yes there is and it is usually at a very cold temperature. I always go with a jacket or scarf for the cold. This temperature is very personal, but in case you are a chiller, I will warn you.
I warn you that there are drivers who believe that the collective is their own space and not a customer service: this makes them turn on their music at full volume, and sometimes they drive as they please. You can report the driver to the company if he did not drive correctly. These denunciation actions make that we all improve the services, so you don't have to do it.

Hello Julio, there are some vans that go direct to the airport from Playa del Carmen from the ADO station by 156 mxn I think I remember.
Good trip!
Excellent page people! in January I'm going to Cancun! Inserts generate me the ways to mobilize. I'm going to stop in the Maroma area, and I do not know whether to use public transport to know or rent a car ... which is better?
Greetings and thanks!
Hello Ariel, very nice the Maroma area, you will love it.
Rent a car allows you greater comfort and ease of movement without doubt, independence and access to more remote places where public transport does not arrive. Both options are safe, so I would honestly choose according to your plan. Something to keep in mind from Maroma, is that if you want to go to archaeological zones by public transport, before you must go to Playa del Carmen or Cancun to take the bus. I leave a link: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/bus-ado-desde-riviera-maya-zonas-arqueologias/
Very good trip, if you have more questions, you know 🙂
Hello, next week I will be staying in the area of Playa Maroma. To take the van to Playa del Carmen, should I go to the route and stop there without problems? How can I identify them and let them know that we want to go up?
Thank you!
Hello Úrsula, as you say, that easy. You go out on the road and wait for the transport van. The drivers pay attention to the people standing on the road, raising their hands is enough to stop them. They are easy to recognize because they carry the destination in the front of the glass: Playa del Carmen, Cancun ... If they do not stop you, it is because they are full, but they pass continuously.
Greetings and good trip! Maroma beach is beautiful 🙂
I will travel to Cancun where I have to stay in the center of Cancun or zona hotelera so that my mobilization will be faster and not to cook in a few days the best of cancun
Hello Oderay, if your idea is to know only Cancun, I recommend you to be in zona hotelera, if you are going to move around the area of Cancun and Riviera Maya, the most practical is in the center because of the transportation theme. According to your plan. I leave an entry that can help you decide, any questions you write me to continue supporting you .: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/dormir-en-cancun-centro/
Regards,
Hello Sandra! In January 2017 we are traveling with friends to Cancun. We will stay in an apartment in the zona hotelera. The idea is of course to know other places, without missing Playa del Carmen and Tulum. My question is to rent a car? We would love to try the rental of one but I wanted to know if it is convenient. Do they charge parking in PDC and Tulum? To know Tulum if or if you have to pay a ticket to go to the beach or is that just for the ruins?
Thank you very much and I love your blog!
Victoria
Hello Victoria, how well your plan paints. Both in Playa del Carmen and in Tulum there are paid parking lots in guarded places or you can park for free in the street. I usually leave it on the street. Tulum pays the ruins, the beach has free access. Regarding the car, according to your intentions to move around the area, to go down to Tulum or Playa is not necessary, but if you want to visit cenotes and ruins it makes it much easier for you to get around by car. Look at the rent time because January is high season and last year there was hardly any possibility of renting.
Regards,
Hello,
We will go to Cancun in December 2 weeks and we want to know Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Xcaret Park and Aktun Chen. What's the best: rent a car, buy the complete packs with transportation and meals or just get on the van? What else do you recommend us to know? This blog is very good!
Hi Catalina,
Precisely for the places you name it would not be necessary to rent a car because of the proximity and ease of getting in van, or with the entrance + transport package, which are usually offered by theme parks such as Xcaret or Aktun Chen. Tulum is very easy to get with van, and economize.
I am not much to recommend without knowing the personal tastes, but for the places you choose, Rio Secreto may like you (for this place they offer transportation + entrance). I would go to Akumal, where they arrive easily, here you can bathe with turtles and the beach is beautiful. In ADO you have the possibility to visit Cobá, including Chichén Itzá. Asking in the terminal of Playa del Carmen, you can organize your trip very well.
Very good trip, we continue with the doubts if it is necessary 🙂
Hello, I'm going from Cancun to the Chávez camping in Tulum, what transport takes me from the Ado Tulum to the Cháves campsite?
Thanks excellent information! 🙂
Hi Nova, look, very close to the ADO of Tulum, buses leave for the beach area. But the taxi should not be expensive either, but I do not know how to give exact price. Enjoy Tulum!
Hi, I'm going to stop at the Oasis Cancun hotel and I would like to know how to go to Tulum and Playa del Carmen in Vans and how much it would cost
Hi Agus, if it's the Oasis Cancún zona hotelera You can go on the R-1 or R-2 buses that pass near your hotel. Tell the driver that you are going to the ADO, that he warns you to get off. From here the vans leave for Playa del Carmen and Tulum. If you read the post with love, you will see the rest of the information you are looking for. Regards,
Hello, I planned to travel to Tulum in July. How to get to Tulum from Buenos Aires! Argentina. Thanks
Hello Rosemary, I pass you an entry with transportation information from the Cancun airport to Tulum. There is little direct support to Tulum, another possibility is to go to Playa del Carmen and from there to Tulum. Sure you find your combination with this info: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/transporte-desde-el-aeropuerto-de-cancun/
Regards,
Hello ! how do i go from the hotel grande bay tulum to cenote two eyes public transport? Thank you !!
Hello Raquel, you must take a bus or go to Tulum, leaving the road from your hotel. The bad thing about Dos Ojos is that you have a few 4 kilometers inside, there is no danger, only if there are no taxis at the entrance you must walk, or wait for someone to drive you. Solutions you find. The driver of the collective tells you the stop, the sign of Dos Ojos looks perfectly on the road. You are very close to Akumal beach, which you can go on your own too.
Good way,
Hi, I'm going to Cancun in March and I'm going to stay in the center of Cancun. I want to know what transport I'm going to get to.
Hello José, if you are staying in the center, it is very simple. Ask for the ADO terminal, from there the direct buses to Tulum, and if you prefer, in front of the terminal, collect buses to Playa del Carmen, from Playa cambias de colectivo at the last stop and take you to Tulum.
Regards,
Hello, in May I travel to Tulum and I stay at Grand Oasis Tulum hotel, what is the way to get to this hotel? regards
Hi Abi, the Grand Oasis Tulum is near Akumal, about 18 kilometers from Tulum. The simple thing would be to go from the ADO to the hotel by taxi, I do not think it's a nonsense of money, but from the terminal of the ADO, buses leave for Playa del Carmen, that's the direction you should take. The driver of the van helps you indicate the stop of the Grand Oasis, 25 pesos will be the ticket.
Regards,
Hi how much does it take to take a taxi from hotel bel air xpuha (farther south of Playa del Carmen) to the airport.
Hi, Claus, I do not know exactly. From the airport to Playa, one private is 950 mxn per person, and collective 350 mxn p / p. In the opposite direction, tariffs tend to be cheaper. There are companies that offer these services, they are charged. I hope you serve the reference.
Good trip,
Hello Sandra, I am planning to travel to Playa del Carmen in the month of October, I would like to know what the weather is like during that month, since I was consulting it is apparently very rainy.
greetings.
Good Fernando, the best months in Riviera Maya are December, January and February, because it is dry season and the tempetarut is lower. October, as you say, is not the best month, because it is still rainy and hurricane season. With this crazy climate, there are Octobers with very little rain, where the weather is zero ... and the hurricane issue exists, but in 12 years in the Caribbean I have not had to suffer any at the moment. Mental summary: try to change dates, but come in October and expect the best. (distract no accents)
Best regards,
Hey.
We plan to visit this area, but we have a doubt in choosing hotel Cancun or Playa del Carmen, what do you recommend? We wish to visit tulum and chichen itza but I would like to know what is best to walk and see in the evenings / nights. Greetings.
Hi Susy, I think Playa del Carmen is more comfortable for those who move around freely, without a doubt. In Playa you find the necessary facilities for your trip. I hope to answer your questions.
Best regards,
Hello!!! I wanted to consult you how to travel from playa del carmen to the Grand Oasis Sens. in cancun, is located in the zona hotelera. Can I go by bus? or vans?
I read the whole blog, they asked for several oases of the chain, except this one.
can you help me? Thank you
Hello Caro, if you can go by public transport. The easiest thing to do if you take the ADO is to be dropped off at Plaza Americas (the ADO makes a courtesy stop near Plaza Americas, the vans stop in front of it). From Plaza Americas, the bus of the 27 route takes you to zona hotelera, it does not happen frequently, but it happens every hour. And if you come in van, it is best to leave in the Plaza del Ceviche, and from there leave the 1 and 2 routes that take you to zona hotelera. These urban buses are more frequent than those on the 27 route.
Greetings, happy to help
Hi, I want to move from playa del carmen to the ADO of cancun. My idea is to spend a night in a hotel near the ADO in Cancun to be at the 5: 30 am at the airport. I understand that there is an ADO in Cancun that takes me to the airport, right?
I will thank you infinitely for your answer.
regards
Good Andrea, I answered your other comment, sorry that yesterday I was bundled. I think the first bus leaves at the 4: 30 to the airport, check the schedules well, leave on time. It gives you time to get to the 5: 30 to the airport.
Very good trip!
Good morning how are you.!!
1) I would like to know to go to XEL HA and XCARET from Cancun the price (pesos mx) of Round trip for a single person and what kind of services I get better either with the ADO Buses or Vans or any other type of Transportation
2) if it is not too much trouble how can I get to chichen Izta from cancun I just need to know the cost of entry to the park on a Thursday first thing and what kind of services I get better $$ either with the bus ADO or Vans or any other Transport type .. Thank you very much leii your blog is a lot of Help for travelers Saludes. !!
Hi Steven,
1-for Xcaret the simplest and easiest thing is to buy the whole package with them for entry and transport, I leave your website where you can see the prices and information you need: http://www.xcaret.com.mx/como-llegar-a-xcaret.php In van or bus you can save a few pesos, but do not believe that the difference is so great and you must change buses in Playa del Carmen, which means more time. Anyway, since you'll be in Cancun, ask in a couple of agencies, to see what price they give you.
2-ADO has service to Chichén Itzá daily from Cancun, here the information: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/bus-ado-desde-riviera-maya-zonas-arqueologias/ The entrance to Chichén is about 140 pesos if you are Mexican and 220 if you are a foreigner, if you are Mexican and you go Sunday it is much cheaper. Steven, if you go for free in ADO you arrive on the 11 and the return you have on the 4 in the afternoon, so you have a few 5 hours in Chichen Itza. You can also go in a package with an agency, ADO also makes this excursion, where they take you to a cenote and stop in Valladolid. Expect to pay from 800 onwards.
Best regards, enjoy the stay!
Hey.
I am going to stay at Bel Air Xpuha, I would like to know how I arrived at the Archeological Zone of Tulum, as well as an approximation of the price.
Very good blogg.
Hello Cynthia, very simple: from the hotel you go out to the main road and you wait for buses in the direction of Tulum, it costs you 20 pesos. The driver helps you with the stop, it will leave you in front of the archaeological zone, where the parking lot is. Back the same.
Happy stay!
Hello Sandra, very good blog. I have a question for you, do you know if it happens some Express Beach by the Nichupté Avenue or the closest thing to the Park Kabah? I need to get to PDC at the 6am and I do not know if collective buses go by at that time. Thank you!
Hello Albert, they do not pass there, it is advisable to go to the start stop, they leave full and do not stop to pick up until it is empty. Those from the Foráneo collective, in front of Playa Express, operate all night. I hope you solve Albert, good luck!
Hello we travel next week to Riviera Maya and we stayed at Gran Palladium, our idea is to go with two other couples to visit Tulum, paradise beach, cenote two eyes, fishermen's beach and akumal in one day.
1) do you think it's too much?
2) is it better to hire a taxi that takes us all the way? I know it's easy to get to Tulum and Akumal in Van but we do not want to walk too much to cenote two eyes.
How is the weather these days over there?
Thank you.
Congratulations on the blog
Hello Javi, imagine your desire? If you can see everything, it is a tight time, so I would try to be in Tulum at the 8. Fishermen and Paradise are quite similar, then Dos Ojos and to finish Akumal. By taxi or you can rent a large car for 7 passengers, it is a very good plan.
The weather is half crazy this time, the first rains and heat have started, but nothing that will ruin your holidays ??
That you enjoy a lot!
Hello Sandra! Congratulations, excellent blog. Consultation: it suits me to stay two days in Cancun zona hotelera to know the nearby beaches, go to Isla Mujeres and Puerto Morelos? and then take an ADO to stay at the Reef Playacar other 5 day? Go to Tulum, Coba, Akumal?
To avoid hotel changes, is it convenient to stay directly in Playa del Carmen? I await your suggestions. Thank you!
Hi Liliana, I honestly believe that both options are fine, Cancun and Playa del Carmen are at an hour and a little, so they offer different destinations. If you stay first in Cancun, it is certainly a great option to visit Isla Mujeres from and spend a day in zona hotelera or down to Puerto Morelos, both can be done in the same day. Shortly the whale shark season begins, the boats leave from Cancun and surroundings. You could do this from Playa del Carmen, too, but it is farther away. As you say, then you go to Playacar, which is like being in Playa del Carmen, and take the opportunity to get to know the other nearby destinations such as Coba, Tulum, Akumal ... You have organized it very well.
Any doubt we continue with it.
Best regards,
Hello! In June I will be with my husband and children in Cancun, we will stay at the zona hotelera. Could you advise me how to go to Isla Mujeres or Playa del Carmen from there, either by public transport or renting a car? Which would be the best option. Are walks to be all day or could we go to any of these and in the afternoon to another site? We already have the plan to Chichen Itza (I think that there is a walk all day) next to some Cenote and if we can stop in Valladolid too, if we plan to rent a car this day to be comfortable without tour pressures!
Forgive the extensive and many thanks in advance for your advice ....
Hello Dorian, from zona hotelera To Playa del Carmen you must go to the ADO (bus terminal) of Cancún with the R-1 or R-2 buses that go through zona hotelera. From here you take direct public transport to Playa del Carmen, the prices and transportation options are detailed in this same entry.
To go to Isla Mujeres I pass this entrance where it tells you how to go, very easy from zona hotelera: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/ferry-a-isla-mujeres/ You can combine both options, although I see better doing Isla Mujeres and Playa del Carmen on separate days. If not, go early to Isla Mujeres and in the afternoon to Playa del Carmen, you have a bus back to 1 in the morning.
I leave an entry that can help you with the visit to Chichen it is necessary all day to go: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/chichen-itza-en-coche-de-alquiler/
Have an excellent vacation.
Regards Dorian,
Sandra,
I do not know what to expect to put publicity on this fabulous blog je, je
Sincerely, CONGRATULATIONS!
jajaj Emilio, thanks for the compliment, I appreciate the comment 🙂
Good way!
What month do you recommend me to go to Playa del Carmen I have two options first week of August or last week of May greetings from monterrey nl
Hello Julio, in August you will find much more people and something more warm, with rain. In August there are more parties, it is the whale shark season and turtle spawning. By beach season the two months are good. I hope it serves you to choose.
Best regards to the north,
Hello, I would like you to advise me I go for 7 days and I want to go to 5 places I do not know how to do my itinerary if I am going to stay in Cancun ... I do not want to be circling if there is something left on the road to do it two days in a row I do not know if it explains ... These are the places where I want to go:
Overall
Playa del Carmen
Chichén Itzá
Isla Mujeres
Xcaret
I hope you can help me I loved your blog
Hi Sonia, all the places you name can be reached perfectly from the same location, Playa del Carmen would be ideal. Isla Mujeres is the one that is closest to Cancun, if you want to change the air and sleep there too. I leave a link on how to go to Isla Mujeres that can help you solve this fringe: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/ferry-a-isla-mujeres/
I hope the subject is clearer.
Enjoy your vacations!
Hello!! I would like you to help me
For the beginning of November I will go with a group of friends to the Mayan Riviera we will stay in the Grand Bahia Principe Coba we will go to Xcaret you recommend me to use it since we want to finish seeing the night show
Will there be transportation back to the hotel?
Hello Yessenia,
You have several ways, as you say go in public van, if there is transportation at those times, the bad thing is that it is intermediate stop and they are full, if you are several it is difficult to find one with place for everyone. Another is to buy the Xcaret ticket with transportation included, you can do it on its official website. Another is to check the price with a taxi driver who operates the area. If you are interested I can pass the contact of a taxi driver of confidence and tell you price. I think the transport to Xcaret was at 450 pesos per person. Look at it and tell me, I hope it serves you.
Best regards,
If we do not think it through and we already have the passes without transport, we think for safety
Is it safe to go? I visited several forums and they always said that they were removed before the show ended because 9: 30 spent the last
The vans, according to my experience of years and have been at all hours in van, are safe, although many drive a little crazy. On the way from Cancun to Playa del Carmen I traveled to the 12 and the 1 at dawn, and yes there is. I think that from Playa to Tulum, your journey, there are also going to the 12 of the safe night. The detail is that they come out full of beach, and in Xcaret, which is nearby, there will be no people coming down from the van, and they pass by. From the 20 hours the frequency is less, in addition. Think about the taxi option, maybe it suits you. Tomorrow I look ADO option, just in case I do not remember well, if there is something I write you here.
Best regards,
Hello Sandra,
We will go to Playa del Carmen in February 2018, to a depot located in the area of Playacar, and we would like if we can know Tulum, Cancun, Akumal, Chichén Itzá, Cozumel, Xcaret.
Should we rent a car?
Hello Cira,
Playacar is well located for excursions on your own by public transport, is close to Playa del Carmen, a town that is very well connected with Tulum, Cancun, Akumal and Xcaret. The most distant is Chichén, where there is a bus from Playa del Carmen as well. The car a couple of days or three will give you mobility and freedom to go your way, it extends the time to say it in some way.
Any doubt you tell me.
Best regards,
Hi, I arrived at the airport in Cancun and I have to go to Tulum, but I do not want to spend a taxi, there is some cheaper service that leaves from the Cancun airport or I have to go to the bus terminal, if I go to the terminal, how do I go? the airport.
Thank you!
Hi David, you have ADO collective transport from the airport to Tulum, but to Playa del Carmen and from there easy to Tulum.
I leave you an entry with the complete transport information of the airport: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/transporte-desde-el-aeropuerto-de-cancun/
Best regards 🙂
Sandra! Very grateful for this very informative post. I have various doubts.
I will be staying at Ocean Maya Royale and very late I realized the location a bit remote.
I would like to go to Cancun and Tulum with express beach or the foreign service.
Frequently asked
1. Is it safe to walk from the resort to the main highway?
2. For being an Intermediate location, will the vans stop to take me anyway? Or do they just stop at popular stops?
3. Let's say I want to go to Tulum, how do I cross the highway to take the bus towards that direction? Is there a pedestrian crossing or should I run?
Thanks in advance for the answers you can provide me.
Hello Andrea,
1-no problem in walking to the main road, none.
2-the vans stop whenever they take place in the van and see someone on the road to stop them: you must make the signal to stop them. You recognize them for carrying the poster of Tulum and Cancun, they are white. Everything simple For the location of your hotel, if you go towards Playa-Tulum, the vans will be empty.
3-there is no pedestrian crossing, you have to cross the two lanes watching well. You will be able to calmly.
Any questions you write to me Andrea.
Best regards,
Any questions you write to me
Hello Sandra. Very Good the post! I consult you In May of next year I travel to Mexico. It is a package that starts in Mexico City and ends in Cancun. Although the excursions are in groups, I travel alone. In Cancun I will be 3 nights. My idea is to know Tulum if or if. My question is if it is easy to go from Cancun to Tulum, if it would not be a problem to go alone in terms of security and others, and if you have to pay excursion to enter Tulum or what it is .. I hope you have understood my concern jaj. Thank you!! regards
Hello Andrea, I will try to help you with the concerns that are needed 🙂
It is very easy to go from Cancun to Tulum: take a van to Playa del Carmen, and from the last stop on Playa you must take another van to the entrance of Tulum (tell the driver to drop you at the entrance to the archaeological zone). You cross the road, you have 500 meters to the access entrance to the ruins: there you pay the 70 access weights and enter. Back the same, but if all the vans are full and they do not stop at the entrance of Tulum, take a van to the town of Tulum, it is at 4 km, and so you have place in the van. I leave the entrance to Tulum in case it helps: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/tulum-como-ir-caribe-mexicano-zona-arqueologica/
Take the swimsuit Andrea, and clothes to change later. Do not worry about security issues, beyond being aware of your belongings, as in any place.
Best regards,
Hello!
First of all THANK YOU for such detailed information, for those of us who are going to travel, it's all a luck!
We plan to visit the entire coast of Quintana Roo, and visit Cozumel and Contoy Island (the latter is not safe, as it is quite far away)
How do we get transportation for both places? Can we stay in Cozumel?
the idea is to visit Isla Contoy and then go down to Cancun ... how do you see it?
Hi Sandy,
For you to organize you I leave an entry on Contoy: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/ir-paraiso-excursion-isla-contoy/
To go to Cozumel you must take the ferry from Playa del Carmen, leave every half hour and it takes about 45 minutes the journey, very easy. The ferry terminal is close to the Playa del Carmen bus. In Cozumel you have many accommodations to choose from, the island is big with many possibilities.
When you go arming more the plan with pleasure I help you with the details.
Sure they will be a great trip 🙂
THANK YOU!
Hello Sandra,
In August, 2018 lodged me in the turquoise coral ocean of Puerto Morelos. I would be interested to know if it is easy to get from the hotel to the town for once there take the ADo to Playa del Carmen or if it is preferable to take a van in the 307. They say that the way from the hotel to the 307 is long and insecure, what you tell me. On the other hand, I would like to snorkel in Puerto Morelos and excursions such as excaret and chichen Itza. It is advisable to take them online (for example on the excaret website there are offer packs) or in Puerto Morelos there are agencies that are dedicated to these excursions ?? Finally, we will be close to different cenotes, do you recommend any and the signature of going ??
Thank you very much
Hi David, that hotel is a bit removed from the town, up to the 307 road you should still walk about 3 kilometers, more or less from the hotel. With the heats of August the road becomes heavy. There are always taxis at the hotel exit, because there is not much bus going by, just to take the employees. Unsafe does not seem that way, in fact I have walked many times out there, but to know. I have done some work for that hotel and I know it well.
To snorkel in Puerto Morelos, in the village the fishermen offer excursions, for about 20 they have them.
Xcaret will do better if you do it in advance on your website, look at the offers and if you go with or without transportation.
Chichen can be done with all the agencies, that day you will also go to a cenote, because they always combine Chichen with a cenote. Yes you will find agencies in Morelos, also in the hotel. If you want me to recommend someone in particular tell me.
Theme cenotes I leave you link of those who have closest, you look at them and we see: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/la-ruta-de-los-cenotes-de-puerto-morelos-leona-vicario/
Any doubt we continue with the subject.
Best regards,
Hello Sandra,
Thank you very much for your clarifications.
If you want to recommend me to someone great, all help is good to make the trip.
I also want to go a bit to the Mayan Riviera, since most of the excursions offered in the hotels are quite expensive.
Regarding the hotel, what do you think ???? The critics are quite good about the value for money.
Thank you very much for everything
David
Hi David,
Yes, the hotel is fine, you will be fine there, it has different areas and restaurants to choose from and not bored. Pity that it is not closer to Puerto Morelos walking, to go more to your air.
Now I send you an email with a contact so you can value if you want to make some excursion with him.
A hug, anything else you know 🙂
Very interesting «The shortest way» !!. I will be February-March-April in Belize-Yucatan. Any hotel recommendation for PUNTA GORDA / PLACENCIA / HOPKINS / SAN IGNACIO / SAN PEDRO (Ambergris Caye) / ORANGE WALK TOWN / COROZAL / BACALAR ?? Thank you
Joan
Hello Joan, what a good trip awaits you, a new route.
Let me look at the destinations with love and review what hotels I liked in that area. I send you an email. What kind of accommodation are you looking for: a hostel to share or a room with a private bathroom?
If I can recommend a Cape of Belize, it would be Cayo Tobbacco, I have not written of the place, but it is a very backpacking and calm key. I'll pass you some data in case you want to take a look. Tomorrow with time I write to you.
Salut Joan,
hello in february i travel to cancun my question is can I travel with suitcases in the public transport and if the ADO makes stops in zona hotelera
Hello Filiberto,
Yes you can travel with your bags on the bus, and no, do not stop at the zona hotelera.
regards
Hello next month I will be in the Riviera Maya area and I wanted to ask if you can recommend some public beaches that are between what is Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum and if you can easily get there by car or other means of transport. Also if there are any, whether or not they are far from what would be the most populated areas of the same and if it takes a long time to reach any of them. Thank you very much for your attention and greetings!
Hello Mariana, well, you can enjoy many beautiful beaches here.
I leave you an article about beaches of Riviera Maya: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/mejores-playas-riviera-maya/ In each specific beach article I explain where they are and how to get there, so you can choose the ones you like the most.
Summer greetings,
Hello Sandra, greetings from Argentina, first of all I would like to thank you for the help to all the people who make these beautiful trips to paradisiacal places, it is very much appreciated. I commented that I will be more than 14 days in the area of the Mayan Riviera, alternating places and accommodation ... seeing and traveling information I came across the ruins of Calakmul ... beautiful, I would like to know if from the area of either: Cancun, Playa del Carmen or Tulum you can get to Calakmul, I know what is left in Campeche, what price would be more and where is it better for me, what will Tulum be like? ... would it be recommended to go and meet and return the same day, or preferable to spend a night there? Excuse so many questions, thank you very much. Regards!!!
Hello Mr. Cat Brayan 🙂
Thanks for the love towards my work, a pleasure to help you enjoy this land.
From any town in the Riviera Maya you should go to Chetumal by bus, and from there get to Xpuhil on another bus. One day you do not have enough time, you must spend a safe night out. From Xpuhil you should take a tour with a taxi driver to Calakmul, which would cost you around 1,000 pesos the taxi. To see the times and money by bus, I link the bus website: https://www.ado.com.mx/ado2/#/
If you are interested I put you in contact with a guide who lives in Chetumal and I could give you a price to go to Calakmul. He works in the southern part of the Peninsula, he has a lot of knowledge and passion, a very good guide. The truth that Calakmul deserves a break.
You tell me things, kind regards.
Hello Sandra, first of all congratulations for your blog, it is very complete, well explained and in short it is a great help for those who want to visit these great places!
In February of this year a couple of friends will visit the Riviera Maya for approx. 10 days arriving and taking lodging in Cancun. From there they want to visit Chichén Itzá and I have also recommended them to go to Tulúm, Playa del Carmen, Hol Box, Bacalar, Sian Ka'an, the cenotes, and well, as all the possible parts.
I have been highly recommended to rent a car for comfort and ease / price ratio. Do you think that it is a good option to visit these places or is it easy to get to them in buses and public transport? The least preferred option is to rent tours for the big costs, but in your experience, are they worth it?
Thank you and great regards!
Hi David, thanks for the comment on the blog, a pleasure to be able to help from here.
Yes I would recommend renting a car, many places are reached by public transport, if not most. The good thing about the car is that they can combine several things. If you go to Chcihén by public transport, it only gives you the day to see Chichén, and little else. Places like Sian Ka'an and some cenotes are better by car, no doubt.
I link you some post that can help you make the decision.

Hello Sandra, congratulations for your blog, a lot of very interesting information, the next February 23 I travel with my wife to Cancun, do you know if these vans take you to chiquila ?, since I have read that the buses Mayab and ADO have very few schedules, we would arrive around the 5pm to Cancun and from there we would like to move to Holbox, you think we could find transportation or we would wait for the next day to leave.
Thank you in advance for the information you share, Greetings
Hello Jonathan, I'm glad it's useful, thank you.
At that time you will not find anything to go to Holbox, but it is by private transfer or private taxi, which would leave around 110 usd the trip, a little more according to the company. I leave you two places where you can look at private transport, so you decide as it suits you:

Best regards, enjoy the island of calm a lot 🙂
Beforehand thank you very much ?
Hola!
This March we will travel to Tulum from Cancun, we have decided not to rent a car and move with buses. My question is, which place is more convenient to stay without a car, in the center of Tulum, or on the 15 road next to the beach? Do you know if buses pass through the beach area?
Thank you!!
Hello Sara, the buses do arrive on the beach, not very frequent. Mobility is facilitated if you stay in the center of Tulum, that's for sure.
You will enjoy a lot, it is easy to move from Tulum.
Best regards,
Many thanks! Your answer has been very helpful 🙂
Hello Sandra. Spectacular your blog. I wanted to ask you.
This weekend that is approaching we will be traveling to Playa del Carmen with my wife. We rent car at the Cancun airport. Is the journey to the beach safe? Are speed radars? Any detail you need to know?
Thank you very much and I await your response. regards
Hello Lautaro,
Thanks for your blog comment. The road that runs through the Riviera Maya is very quiet. You will find two fixed police posts that make routine checks of car papers, one at the exit of the airport towards Playa and another entering Playa del Carmen. There are speed indicators on the road and some police with mobile radars on the sides to sanction. The maximum speed I do not know if it's 100 kilometers, it's a good road.
I hope you have answered the questions.
Best regards, have a great time 🙂
Good. I think good comments. I wanted to know if I get better transported in tour agencies or with personalized transportation. If you know any company or someone who makes these trips. Since there are few days in the area and we want to make the most of them
Hi Alexander,
If you are 4 people, surely renting a car is more economical. The option of the tours is a good thing, for comfort and they also guide you in the tours and you always learn. There are many agencies, I like those that operate with few people, it makes the trip more dynamic and closer, not like the big buses. I write a private and I pass the contact of two people so that you yourself values.
Best regards,
SANDRA. THERE I READ YOUR COMMENT ... YOU CAN SEND ME ALSO TO RENT A CHEAPER CAR, I'M GOING WITH MY DAUGHTER. GRACIASS
Hi Ana,
I leave an article where I link a good car rental search engine where they compare the prices of companies. It is very useful, it sure helps you find your best option. https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/consejos-conducir-peninsula-yucatan/
Embrace, enjoy a lot.
Hi, I'm staying at the zona hotelera of Cancun and I have seen tours «TULUM-PLAYA DEL CARMEN» but they are a little expensive 80 $ on average per person, so I want to know if it is advisable to go on my own to Tulum and after touring Tulum take a bus and go to know Carmen beach. How would I do if I want to know both places on the same day? Routes and prices would be of great help.
Thank you!
Hello Christel,
It is easy to go on your own to visit the archaeological zone of Tulum and Playa del Carmen. Take the bus from the center of Cancun to Playa, from there change buses to Tulum: tell the driver to drop you off at the entrance to the archaeological zone (it takes you about two hours and a little more from Cancun this way). When leaving Tulum take the collective to Playa del Carmen (this trip takes half an hour). In Playa back to Cancun they leave late, no problem. And from downtown Cancun by taxi or the 1 route buses or 2 route to your hotel.
At the entrance are the prices of transport, I leave you to Tulum to see prices: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/tulum-como-ir-caribe-mexicano-zona-arqueologica/
You can do it perfectly in a day with no problem.
Best regards,
Hello Sandra, what a good blog and support for tourism in the area!
No doubt it is simple in May I will go to Tulum the problem is that my flight arrives at the 22: 00hrs room and there is no direct ADO.
What do you suggest me to take? Since I'm going alone, my friends arrive in the morning.
Thank you!
Hello María, at that time there is a bus that goes to Playa del Carmen, you could go straight and from there in a van to Tulum (you must leave at that time, even some ADO). If you see that it is too late to travel, you can stay in Cancun or Playa del Carmen and arrive in Tulum the next day. But transfer directly from the airport, see the price that would cost you in this entry: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/transporte-desde-el-aeropuerto-de-cancun/
I hope you serve, enjoy a lot here María.
Hello Sandra.
A consultation, with my partner we need to go from Playa del Carmen to the Palladium hotel chain with suitcases.
We already found out that the ado does not stop at the hotels and the van does not take us with suitcases.
The only option we have is the taxi?
We heard about buses from the Mayab line that depart from the tourist terminal and stop at the hotels, but it was not clear to us if this is indeed the case, if they take us with suitcases and what timetables they have.
You can guide us about it? We would travel on a Sunday.
From now I thank you
Hi Cesar,
As you say, the possibility in addition to the private transfer to the hotel, would be the Mayab, which you should take from the Cancun city terminal. Mayab is a second class bus company that stops where you say, as they go, but I do not remember if they let carry heavy luggage. I have tried to look at schedules and find out, but I have not succeeded. When do you have the flight, and at what time do you arrive? In case it helps you I link you this: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/transporte-desde-el-aeropuerto-de-cancun/
hello, those prices are current? I'll be there in May, and to go to the archaeological zone of tulum as I do, I hope your answer, thanks Sandra!
Hi Dulce, where do you go to the Tulum area? To be able to help you.
If they are updated, they may charge more, weight up step down.
Regards,
Hello Sandra! I know it's a bit late but I need to know some information hehe
I have a wedding at the hotel dreams tulum at 3 in the afternoon and ends at 11 pm
I am staying in Cancun in the zona hotelera and I would like to know if there is a direct way to get to my detsino? Go, the vans make stops at the hotels?
And if it is direct from tulum to cancun or if it is necessary to go to playa del carmen?
Thank you very much for your help!
Good evening 🙂
Hello Ana Laura, I know badly, I read it now, I hope to be on time.
You must go by van to Playa del Carmen, from there you go to Dreams Tulum, you tell the driver to leave you in front of you and you only cross the road. It's simple. On the way back it is the same, there is less service, but they do pass at that time.
Have fun 🙂
sandra I'm from argentina .. go from puerto morelos, hotel Dreams riviera to playa del carmen and then tulum, what means do you recommend? thank you
Hello Ana, collective take, being intermediate journeys much better because they stop where indica.
Good way,
Good morning Sandra. Excellent info, clearing many doubts. I make a query. I have some friends who went to Cancun a few days ago and did a tour that included Playa del Carmen, Coba and Tulum (I think those were 3 destinations). The price was quite something, so I would like to know if it can be done individually (by taking my own collective), or it is better to do it with a tour like them. Due to the price and experience, I always prefer to do it alone, but hey, you will tell me. Thank you!
Hi Javier,
The three things in one day on your own is difficult, in two days very simple: one can do Tulum and another day Cobá, Paya del Carmen can be combined with any of the two archaeological sites. The day of Tulum you could combine it with the beach of Tulum or with Akumal, where the turtles. Those two days in combi or in ADO is simple. I link you an article that can help you with the visits to archaeological zones in ADO bus: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/bus-ado-desde-riviera-maya-zonas-arqueologias/
If there are doubts we continue in it.
Best regards,
Hello, sandra, I want to visit the archaeological zone of Tulum and then Dolphins Beach in one day. How long is the trip between those 2 places my idea is to go with a group of people by bus. I hope you can solve my doubt, thank you?
Hi William,
The bus from Tulum to Cancun takes two hours and 15 minutes, in ADO, here is your website: https://www.ado.com.mx/ado2/#/ Once in Cancun you must take the 1 route that passes in front of the bus terminal, it takes about a half hour long to Playa Delfines. The journey is simple. I do not know how to tell you more because I do not know if you go by private bus, where do you come from and those things, so I hope I have understood and resolved your doubts 🙂
Happy trip to all,
Hello Sandra! We go by private bus and My question was the time of the trip between those two points to know how long to stay in Tulum and then go to Playa Delfines. And so I read two hours apart. Thank you for solving my doubt GREETINGS! ??
Hello sandra to go to tulum from the hotel aquamarina cancun there is something faster than the ado where the trucks go van is to go in July greetings from Monterrey Mexico
Hello, Jose Manuel,
From your hotel to the ADO you must go with the 1 route bus. There in the terminal of the ADO, you can take the bus to Playa and from there to Tulum, it is faster than the truck. That would be the fastest way.
Regards norteños, that you spend a good holiday 🙂
Hello Sandra, good afternoon
It's a pleasure to find your page very good, I'm planning my visit to the area for the last of August, I'll stay at the hotel express city of Playa del Carmen, check the location and the ADO terminal is something removed from the hotel to go walking ... you can help me with the best route for transport from airport to hotel. And how is the weather in the rainy season, lasts all day?
Thanks and Regards
Hello Lilia, how good it is to plan.
The airport bus does not make intermediate stops, it will drop you off at the stop in Playa del Carmen. The best option from there to the City Express is to go by taxi for about 50 pesos. There must be some group that goes through that route, but I do not know what it is, I'm sorry.
Normally the rains are concentrated and strong at night, sometimes we get a few days of rain followed, but the usual are concentrated rains. https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/mejor-epoca-visitar-riviera-maya/
Enjoy the place, good way.
Hello I'm glad to have found your post reading questions and answers more or less I give you an idea of how to do it but it's good to expose my doubts I would really appreciate it if you help me my family and I will stay in the Riviera Maya generatios to go to tulum I must go to the road to take the van my question is, would have to get off at playa del carmen and then take another go to tulum? Or some takes me directly to tulum
Hello Erika, happy to help you.
It is correct what you say, you must go out on the road to take the last stop to Playa del Carmen, and from there you link the other one to Tulum.
Have a great time 🙂
Thank you ?? I hope not to lose hehe hehe and if I want to go to akumal the same day that I go to Tulum how could I do it? Is it safe that the vans do pick me up on the road? It gives me a bit of nerve that more than I go with children
Hello Erika, normal that you have nerve before the unknown.
To go to Akumal would be the same, tell the driver to notify you of the stop at Akumal. Back on the road wait for a van to pick you up and take you. You have to bear in mind that several vans will be full, the good thing is that in Akumal, people usually stop and empty themselves. I would go down first in Akumal, and then in Tulum, for the place in the van. From Tulum, if you pass all full direction Playa del Carmen, I recommend you take one to the town of Tulum, and from the initial stop, grab the van to Playa del Carmen. You will see that it is simple.
A hug,
Sandra good morning, I congratulate you on your post was very educational, but I only have one question. Look, I'm arriving in Cancun in February, but I just arrived at the 11 at night, which prevents me from taking the ADO buses to transport me to Tulum, so I have two possibilities left or rent a car or take the buses and do it in two sections, my question is if I choose the end in going in a collective, I also allow me to take my suitcase of 24 "with wheels plus a backpack. I know I will travel uncomfortably but that does not bother me, or what worries me is that if they did not let me do it.
Hello Ruben, how good it is for your trip the info 🙂 Good question to add this information to the blog, in the collectives do not allow large packages. Anyone who travels with a large suitcase must take the ADO, they may have made an exception at that time and depending on who you are, but I would not risk it. The most economical bus would be from the airport to the ADO terminal in Cancun (one goes to the 23: 45, I do not know if you have time, but transfer) and from there to Tulum in the first ADO that leaves (I did not check schedules). I link you another post in case it helps you to complete the information: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/transporte-desde-el-aeropuerto-de-cancun/
Good way Ruben,
Hello! We arrived at the Cancun airport at 1 in the early morning and our destination is Tulum. We had planned to sleep 1 night in Cancun as we will arrive busted (we travel from Barcelona, Spain). At what time is the transportation to go to Cancun from the airport?
The next day we want to go to Tulum early, I've seen tickets with ADO for 94 pesos, is the best option, better than a Van?
I appreciate the answer! 🙂
Sonia
Hello Sonia, because at that time there is no public transport, only private taxis or transfers. It is better that you take the ADO to Tulum for the comfort of the luggage above all. It takes a little longer, but safer. The ADO leaves you in Tulum, downtown. I'll leave you two tickets in case they help you get in. https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/transporte-desde-el-aeropuerto-de-cancun/ There are cheap options near the ADO to sleep in Cancun: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/dormir-en-cancun-centro/
A hug to my beautiful city of Barcelona, have a great time here 🙂
HELLO GOOD DAY, I WANT TO TRAVEL 15 DAYS TO CANCUN, PLAYA DEL CARMEN AND TULUM, AND TO WALK SOME OTHER PLACES THAT RECOMMEND ME TO DO FIRST, I ALSO WANT TO BE AT LEAST 5 DAYS IN SOME INCLUSIVE, AND MOBILITY FORM IN THESE PLACES WE ARE A MARRIAGE. THANK YOU
Hi Lucho, in 15 days you can make a great vacation around here, even know the surroundings of Riviera Maya like Valladolid, Rio Lagartos, Bacalar. It would be a good option to rent a car a few days, and then enjoy the all inclusive: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/alquilar-coche-en-riviera-maya/ To see different alternatives I leave this link with information: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/viajar-a-riviera-maya-en-hotel-todo-incluido/
We design and advise travelers in a personal way if you want us to help you plan your vacations, where we would make a complete plan according to your tastes. I leave our way to do it if you are interested in this service: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/planifica-con-nosotros-tu-viaje-a-tierras-mayas/
Have an excellent vacation 🙂
Hola!
Until what time are buses or buses from Tulum to Cancun (zona hotelera)?
Hi Gianina, from Tulum you must go to Playa del Carmen (they leave until the night), from Playa another to Cancun (it leaves you in the center of Cancun, from there you have to take an urban bus on Tulum avenue zona hotelera, pass the R-1). Until 12 at night you find how to go. Or you can take a large bus from Tulum to Cancun, and from there by urban bus as I explained. Here the schedules: https://www.ado.com.mx/#/
Best regards,
Sandra Hi!
I will make a stopover of 7.30 hours in Cancun, I want to go to the beach and as I have read the cheapest way is to go from the airport in an ADO bus to the ADO bus terminal, and then take a bus to Tulum Avenue the zona hotelera.
I want to know if you can tell me which is the closest beach from that terminal, which bus route takes me and how do I get back from the beach to the airport again.
Thank you very much for your help.
Hello Mauro!
Indeed, as you say taking ADO bus at the airport you arrive at the central terminal. From there you take the bus that takes you to the beaches. I pass the link where I explain all the beaches of Cancun ways to get https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/playas-cancun/ . Enjoy your chosen beach Mauro!
Hello Sandra, good day, all your information, I have a doubt I will travel right now in Nov to Cancun, I was seeing the way to transport me from the airport to the zona hotelera, the ADO is far from there ?? What price do you know? Or do you know which company drives a collective taxi and at what price?
Hi Lupi, from the airport there is no direct ADO to zona hotelera. I leave the complete information of the airport transport, any doubt you tell me: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/transporte-desde-el-aeropuerto-de-cancun/
Good trip
