Cenote Yokdzonot is an example of the administration of these natural treasures of the Yucatan Peninsula: the cenotes. On the free road between Valladolid and Mérida we find this wonderful space a few meters from the road.
El Yokdzonot cenote It is one of the cenotes that fall in love, a beauty of place. A large diameter hole with walls 20 meters high up to the waters of the cenote 40 meters deep. The unrepeatable nature gives us this unique space where the roots of the nearby trees come down to drink from the crystalline fresh waters.
What other fantastic Yucatan cenotes we recommend you visit

Where Yokdzonot cenote is located
In addition to its beauty, it enjoys the advantage of being close to the road, in the town of Yokdzonot. The town is 26 kilometers from Piste, where we find the unmissable archaeological zone of Chichén Itzá. Highway 180 is known as free, in contrast to the fee, the payment that runs parallel. If you do not travel in a hurry choose free to know quietly exquisite corners like Yokdzonot. It is a busy road by public transport, both collective (vans of 12 passengers) as trucks (buses) and cheap taxis from Piste. A mere 400 meters from the town of Yokdzonot we find the entrance to the cenote.
A bit of history of the Yokdzonot cenote
The Yokdzonot cenote is pride and example of good administration by a cooperative of Mayan families. A group of the community, the vast majority women, began cleaning and conditioning work on the cenote in the 2005, making the Yokdzonot cenote one of the most visited in Yucatan. Now they proudly remember the first years of volunteer work without obtaining benefits from this natural site that is now Yokdzonot's greatest claim. Today the Mayan cooperative is made up of 17 people, 13 of them women. Part of the profits go entirely to the ejido, for the benefit of all Yokdzonot residents. Personally it was a pleasure to talk with some members of the cooperative, their love for what they do has led them to offer one of the best cared cenotes with excellent services on the Peninsula. Their cenotes is a treasure for them 🙂

Cenote Yokdzonot Services:
In the Yokdzonot cenote you have several activities to practice as the vertiginous zip line 30 meters above the cenote, rappel down 18 meters of incredible walls and rent bike to arrive by a 3-kilometer track to the Catalina cenote, where at the moment you cannot swim. I did not get to see it because time simply consumed me in the Yokdzonot cenote, but in photos it looks like vice. In the Yokdzonot cenote there is a camping area where you can sleep guarding the meek waters. The restaurant is open from 9 to 17 in the afternoon, pure Yucatecan food.
My most sincere respect to this Mayan community that has been able to make a positive return on its natural resources. A much more ecological space than many others that boast with the use of this fashionable word and that it dresses so well. Here you will find pure ecology of the good.
