Among the preciousness that the town of Homún treasures, the Yaxbacaltun cenote is one of its most visited and photographed cenotes. This large cenote has easy access and comfort, an ideal space for a wide range of visitors.
Cenote Yaxbacaltun It is one of the most popular visits in Homún, considered a leading destination to visit several cenotes. Everything you need to know about cenotes in Homún: prices, how to get there, photos to choose your ideal cenote
The cenote Yaxbacaltun It is a few kilometers from the entrance to the dirt road. I was eager to travel the 14 kilometers that there are until the Yalahau lagoon and get to know the caves and cenotes of this dirt track.
Facilities Yaxbacaltun They are comfortable, access to the cenote is simple, you go down metal stairs about 15 meters to a wide concrete platform at the foot of the water, with low parts where you don't need to know how to swim, as well as deep parts for those who do know, what makes an ideal space for a wide range of visitors.
These access facilities are very important for families traveling with children and the elderly, like the 84-year-old American woman I met while swimming enthusiastically for the first time in the cenote Tza Ujun Kat, another of the most popular of Homún. I recognize the advantages of comfortable and simple accesses, but I am not made of metal and cement in the cenotes, I am of more natural tastes.
The cenote Yaxbacaltun, green cob on stone, is of the open type, with a spacious diameter. You can swim to one of the banks of the cenote from where there is a nice view from another angle. From the central platform you can appreciate the total diameter and admire the formations, the vegetation, the lights and shadows that with the reflections create beautiful harmonies. It would be a good exercise in appreciation to be in the cenote from sunrise to sunset, to see how the entire melody of light sounds. Ugh, I'm leaving ...
In facilities cenote Yaxbacaltun Mayan ceremonies are held, you can camp for 30 pesos a night, the restaurant of the enclosure is open on weekends, the other days they put at your disposal the Santa Cruz Restaurant, which is located on the main road that crosses Homún. The breadth of the cenote and the capacity of the restaurant make it an ideal cenote for large groups.
In the cenote enclosure they exhibit various local fauna such as a deer, crocodiles, a boa and some unhappy other enclosed by the questionable human pleasure of seeing them. Much better was listening and seeing the colony of swallows fluttering the cenote Yaxbacaltun, or point of comparison.
