The area of the municipality of Yalcobá is surrounded by beautiful cenotes. The Cenote X-Ca'anajaltun is one of the amazing cavities that you find on your way. This land is full of treasures, we enjoy and take care of them.

We have a few cenotes compiled in the CENOTES section of the blog, and every time I write a new cenote I think And what do I explain now?. Then I let myself be guided by the sensations experienced and I get what I wrote without thinking. This is the magic of the cenotes, I am surrendered to these treasures of nature.

Without a doubt, the cenote X-Ca'anajaltun is one of the best Cenotes in Valladolid

Cenote Xcanahaltun or X-Ca'anajaltun

Many times we see local cenotes with a Mayan name written in different ways. That is due to the little knowledge of the local language at the written level, they pronounce it the same but they write it differently. The Xcanahaltun or X-Ca'anajaltun cenote is one more example.

Xcanahaltun opened its doors to tourism in 2016. The Valladolid family that owns the cenote, invested to enable it, then they accessed a monetary fund from the Government with which they finished making the facilities for the tourist. If the Government gives money for these projects, it is because they see the cenote with possibilities due to its beauty and its good location.

The cenote X-Ca'anajaltun has both characteristics: it is so beautiful that it makes you drop when you see it osti tu que maco (expressed in Catalan: wow in universal language), and is located just half an hour from Valladolid and Ek Balam.

The municipality of Yalcobá is an area with fantastic cenotes such as Popcorn, Agua Dulce, Saca Aua or the announced Cenote Maya, managed by a private tourist company, something expensive to visit this cenote. Explore the Yalcobá area, many cenotes are managed by local people, visiting them is a way to cooperate economically with businesses that are more just in terms of resources.

The beautiful cenote area in Yalcobá

The Yalcobá area is one of the areas where the powerful tourist company Xcaret has set its eyes (or claws). They have bought several beautiful cenotes from farmers in the area, in order to make a cenote theme park (they already did it in Quintana Roo), modifying nature according to their recreational craving.

The modest farmer often has neither the money, nor the time, nor the ability to promote it, nor the willingness to enable the beautiful cenote of his land. Xcaret is left over, and money in hand is a simple sight solution for many workers and their families. This reality has been explained to me by several peasants in the area, the money they were offered, how easy it is to fall into temptation and the fear of being left without land, because of how important it is for them. David vs. Golliat, a contemporary story at all times.

Cenote Xcanahaltun is managed by a local family

The cenote X-Ca'anajaltun (high waterfall) It is an example of local private administration. The Valladolid family was able to clean and condition the place, and now they start their business thanks to their beautiful treasure. They do not have the diffusion of others, nor an email where to communicate.

I have the joy of meeting the X-Ca'anjaltun cenote family, for the times that I have visited it personally, those that I have visited with clients and in this 2019 I have shared a diploma as a Nature Guide with my friend Erasmus, site manager Many joys join me, and that is a luxury.

One of the cenote workers accompanies you inside. It is as a precaution, to take care of your treasure with a series of rules that we must all follow, such as showering before entering to bathe, not hanging from the roots of trees, not moving stones. Respect the place as it deserves.

Xcanahaltun Cenot

El Cenote X-Ca'anajaltun It does not receive many visitors, so its recent opening has not diminished the curiosity of the children of the town to see you bathe in the cenote: they will enter following you down the stairs and they will stay in the cenote until you stay, you are their entertainment. This postcard of children's curiosity is repeated wherever you go, children are curious and they show it. Fantastic 🙂

Arrival at the X-Ca'anajaltun Cenote

The first vision of Cenote X-Ca'anajaltun Going down the stairs of 6 meters is overwhelming, you already feel that you are in front of a special cenote. When you have the whole vision of Cenote X-Ca'anajaltun in its full magnitude when you go down the stairs, you inevitably smile at its beauty. A natural space of colossal diameter with the vault partially collapsed over the crystal clear waters of the cenote.

The first time we went on a cloudy day, so I returned on a sunny day to take photos with the sunlight illuminating and painting the cenote with captivating reflections and beams of light. It is to be a full day.

Xcanahaltun Cenote

El Cenote X-Ca'anajaltun It is a fantastic option if you are looking for a beautiful and not very visited place. Seeing cenotes in their natural state I like very much, I enjoy as a girl bathing, discovering its beauty tangled in its crystalline waters. You can swim to the sand island on the other side of the cenote, the views are different. With the diving mask you can better appreciate the collapse of the vault.
