The Choj-Há cenote is located a few kilometers from the town of X-can, an area surrounded by cenotes, caves and caverns of the most interesting. The Choj-Há cenote It is simply wonderful.
I like to travel freely from Cancun to Merida much more than for the fee, it offers many unmissable stops along the way. On the stretch of road from Leona Vicario to Valladolid there are interesting detours that we have discovered over time. This area is getting me more and more dazzled.
One of them is the caves of Santa Rita, a place that fascinates me. The fact of being able to get to know places inhabited or occupied by the human being for activities such as rituals, shelter or hunting so many millions of years ago, and that are still used for the same thing, is something that moves me. The underground worlds are the wrinkles of our Humanity.

Chooj-Já Cenote or Choj-Há Cenote
I met the cenote Choj-Há, a place I had visualized a long time ago and why ho for b We never stop to visit him. Have I ever commented on my theory of follow the wooden sign: If I see a modest wooden sign on the road indicating a cenote or a grotto, I follow it without hesitation. In the small Mayan communities, if they don't believe they have something very beautiful to show, they wouldn't dare to put up a sign. If it is announced it is that something beautiful they have to teach and is well suited for you to visit. The theory has not failed me to date, so follow the wooden sign.
Cenote Choj Há is managed by the local community
The Chooj Ja 'cenote (dripping water) It is simply wonderful, when I go I get a knot in the stomach of emotion. Of the most beautiful cenotes you will see in these lands.
That other Cenote Valladolid you can visit as beautiful as Choj-Há
Many of these cenotes are managed by local people, one more reason to get here until the fact of leaving profits to more disadvantaged areas, which do not have the possibility of advertising campaigns with which large tourist companies engulf visitors to the Riviera Maya.
Places like the cenote Choj Há are much more authentic and wonderful for the pleasure of many travelers, in which I will certainly count. The locals must take advantage and get to know these places, they have nothing to envy as places of nature to the most publicized parks.

Services of the Choj-Há cenote
The Choj-Há cenote is enabled with an easy entrance of wooden stairs and lights that illuminate the cave of crystalline waters, it is an incredible cenote of beautiful. There are services of showers (showers), changing rooms and rustic bathrooms. They also sell local products such as delicious honey and handicrafts.
To date they have no restaurant, but it is in their plans. You can take your cooler and food, but you cannot consume them inside the cenote.
Chooj Já is an example of sustainable cenote management
One of the details that speaks very well of administrators is that they force you to shower before you bathe and take off your shoes on the last leg before entering the cenote. This community takes care of its cenote as the treasure it is: its services are rustic and ecological.
I am sure that good training by the Archaeological Group Ajau The community helped them strengthen the best way to manage the cenote. How much or little I know, for me the Ajau Group is one of the entities that carry out a more commendable work in the territory of the Yucatan Peninsula.
A true luxury to know cenotes as beautiful as Chooj Ja ', every day I walk more in love with these treasures, mine has no choice.
I thank the members of the Chooj Já cenote for their friendship, they are already a few years that join us. Hopefully they continue managing it just as well and take care of the cenote as they do, they are an example to follow. That their treasure helps them to obtain a better life thanks to tourism will be good news. It is worth approaching these places.

Hello, thank you very much for the great job you do. It helps us to fall in love even more with our Mayan beauty. Look, just since January's 9 I had the opportunity to know the cenote, I was delighted and I have recommended it, just as you do. The only difference with its description is that it was only managed by a local Mayan cooperative, who did the discovery of the cenote, as they told me, and not some group called AJAU, that has caught my attention, since when entering only They charged us 40-50 pesos, but not 100 pesos.
When I read your note, in the practical file, I see the current cost. I would have no problem making the payment of the 100 pesos if they go directly to the local cooperative, but I see that an AJAU group came in and is asking for a considerably higher collection, which does cause a bit of frustration given the profit for the increase of more than 50%.
Grateful for his great descriptions, I would like to know your opinion.
Hello Luis Jorge,
Nice to talk with you.
Regarding the increase in cost, it has nothing to do with the Ajau Speleological Group, who do a job of evaluating, cooperating and training from their voluntary experience the communities that contact them, without profit, on the contrary. The local community is the one that administers and sets the price of the cenote and the money goes directly to the local cooperative, the Ajau Group only trained them. Once this is clarified, there is another issue. The price of the Chooj Ja 'cenote is likely to be lower for locals, sometimes changing the price according to the visitor. I am a foreigner, they have given me this price the times I have gone (they started charging 10 pesitos the entrance in its beginnings). This happens in several cenotes, something that bothers some visitors.
I hope I have clarified the possible doubts generated by the price.
Best regards,
sandra
