Cenote Angelita is a classic among divers, one of the unmissable cenotes for the diver who comes to these lands. Its spectacular halocline has an irresistible power.

If you are a diver and you come to Riviera Maya, you are probably rubbing your hands waiting for the moment to immerse yourself in the magic of Angelita. His spectacular halocline is his big hook: so many spectacular images and videos of the place we force to go to Cenote Angelita, one of the most popular cenotes in the world of diving.

What are haloclines?

Haloclines are a physical phenomenon that occurs in underground cavities where fresh water is mixed with salt water, giving the visual sensation of blurring. The different densities of fresh and salt water they do not mix, so the sweet remains above the salt. Under conditions of low pressure and cold water, this separation of water is visible to the naked eye. This phenomenon does not occur only in the cenotes, also in the sea, between 500 and 1000 meters deep, by the difference of salinity.

The halocline that forms in cenote Angelita is simply spectacular because of the visual and physical leap of changing from one landscape to another. The first 24 meters are fresh water and the 32 meters below are salt water, in addition these solutions are separated by a dense acid cloud with a thickness of 1 meter.

In most cenotes near the coast in Quintana Roo is usually appreciated the haloclines, for being the natural point where fresh and salty waters of the sea meet. Not only in cenotes can you appreciate this phenomenon, also in the coves of the coast such as the Yal-kú cove, you can see them. It is normal to go swimming and suddenly you think your vision clouded, that you need to see lenses: you are going through a halocline.

Other cenotes famous for their haloclines are the Chikin ha, the Taj Mahal and the Grand Cenote, the latter ideal for novices.

Cenote Angelita in Tulum

Cenote Angelita, Like Cenote Calavera, I recommend it especially to divers. I understand that there are more beautiful cenotes if you are not going to dive, because the spectacularity of them lies inside. If you are only going to swim and spend the day, there are nicer cenotes in this area, such as Cristal and Escondido, the Grand Cenote, Car Wash or the Kaan L'uum lagoon.

Angelita is a nice natural space, there is no bad cenote for me. The day I went they let me look out without paying the entrance, the light was horrible and I was only 5 minutes, that's why the photos do not reflect the place as it deserves, nor the writing.
