The Tizimín Kings Fair is one of the most striking events that can be enjoyed in the Yucatan Peninsula. Its Livestock Fair Expo brings together an endless number of Yucatecan flavors, an experience not to miss the traditions.
Yucatán preserves traditions and folkloric festivities that are attractive to the traveler: town festivals, dairy farms, traveling circuses, religious festivities, Mayan cultural events, processions, and gastronomic fairs.
There are many local calendar events away from the voracious appetite of mass tourism and in favor of the traveler who goes his own way.
When is the Fair of Kings of Tizimín
Since the end of December Tizimín dresses up and lives of the most popular celebrations in the Peninsula. It is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the local environment and live your traditions closely, talk to people, meet other customs and why not, end up participating almost as one.
One of the great attractions during these days of celebrations is the Fair Livestock Fair of Tizimín, which is celebrated during the first 3 weeks of January in a large open field on the outskirts of town.
Tizimín Livestock Fair Expo
The Livestock Fair Expo is mounted in a large open field on the outskirts of the city of Tizimín. Here you can enjoy the attractions like the bumper cars, the merry-go-round or the roller coaster, Competitions beauty dogs, check that the sightglass of the shotgun is still crooked, races of horses with bets between farmers, buy a good cowboy hat, BBQs enlivened with live entertainment, sales of sheep, cows or some wanted stallion, enjoy the circus with juggling dogs and goats, dance to the rhythm of Sun girls and see how some grandmother dares to go up on stage to compete with the impudence of the older people so moving.
The Fair is a host of details and situations that make spending a day at this fair really endearing.
This area of Yucatan is very cowgirl, cattle and ranches. Here livestock is one of the economic engines, so the atmosphere of the fair is cowboy. It is a fair to do cattle business and to enjoy the environment in a cheerful and calm way.
In this esplanade gather from rich farmers who arrive in their Porsche to humble villagers from the surrounding villages spending the day with their families, from grandparents to grandchildren. You will see farmers closing businesses, families walking, boys going out to flirt, girls to show off, children to play, a fair delight with that timeless charm that catches.
The fair has an incredible local atmosphere of traditions, of women with their beautiful hippes, of the usual attractions, of treats, of cowboys, of celebration, of barbecue meat, of families, of beer, of entertainment, of churros, tacos, caramelized apples and clouds, of stuffed animals, of town, of circus old, from Spider woman as well as the bearded. an old-fashioned fair with the purest Yucatecan stamp, unique.
Travel calmly and knowing the terrain allows you to enjoy these little tourist places, discovering details and learning their traditions, talking with any excuse. The place is initially reserved, but if you feel comfortable is a very talkative, affable and fun people who will be happy to talk about their customs.
The fact that foreigners hardly attend, is the details that also enrich the day because it is easier to mix with people with a little sympathy and enjoy as one more.
For fans of photography, it's simply wonderful to go around the place with your camera on your shoulder. What photographer does not seduce a fair? Do not miss this detour on your trip.
If you come to the Fair You can stay in Tizimin, where you have to choose. If you plan to come on a weekend, I recommend booking in advance because Tizimín is full.

Thank you for transmitting our customs, but, my friend, I miss you very much living the traditional side; from the famous Vaquería (Dance of jarana with people wearing the regional dress with which the towns of Yucatan begin their parties, the sowing of the ceibo (tree of the region that is planted in the ring or bullring, which incidentally that of Tizimín it is unique, it is 3 flats, made with wood from the region and therefore it is handmade, from the traditional bullfights of the place, a fair or responsible "deputy" is named, which are 9 because they are traditional 9 runs, One night before their bullfight, each "deputy" makes a "wake", where during the night with music they receive promises like bouquets, banderillas etc. for 3 at dawn with music, people fly to the arena bullfighting to crown him and return to the house to follow the dance, later to the 3 in the afternoon, traversed with the regional costume, bouquets, flying banderillas and music go to "crown" the square to start the bullfight of the ia, this is repetitive 9 days in a row and there are still more traditions ...
Hello Luis Felipe! There is no better guardian of traditions than the local itself. I thank you for all that you have added with your contribution in the post, thank you very much for telling some of the customs, very interesting what you explain to us. About some I knew, others I hope to continue learning and enjoying them.
My purpose in writing this entry is none other than to encourage people to visit the Fair, so they are notes of my feelings in this case.
A pleasure that you walk around here Luis Felipe and hopefully we can continue learning. Best regards.
Undoubtedly .. very attractive images to photograph. It reminded me of Serrat's song ..
We are going up the slope
that up my street
He dressed up as a party.
And today the nobleman and the villain,
the man and the worm
they dance and shake hands
without caring about the look ...
Jaaja came to my mind and I imagine it a real and fun party.
Thanks for sharing Sandra. Beautiful post! Kisses 🙂
