ADO bus company:
ADO (read "a-de-o«) Is the company of trucks (buses) most important that operates in southern Mexico. From the cities of Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum there are transportation services to archaeological zones from Chichen Itza, Tulum and Coba. Puerto Morelos has an ADO stop, but does not provide direct service to the archaeological sites, always having to reach Cancun or Playa del Carmen.
ADO is a company with convenient and timely transportation in its services, I have used it numerous times and without complaints. Remember to take a little jacket for the bus that sometimes the air is very powerful. You can buy your ticket online, but the easiest thing to do is to do it at the company's own branches. You can change or cancel your ticket until 30 minutes before departure.
ADO also offers tour packages to these archeological sites and other destinations, such as Ek Balam from Cancun. They operate as an agency, offering tours combined with cenotes and cultural visits, as excursions from the Mayan Riviera usually do. Toll free from Mexico: 01-800-455-4040
ADO Terminals:
- Cancun: It is located in the center of Cancun, near the Palapas Park, on Calle Pino sin número, between Av Tulum and Av Uxmal. There are other terminals, but this is the one that interests you.
- Carmen beach: Playa del Carmen's main terminal is located on the busy 5th avenue, on the corner of Benito Juárez. The alternate terminal at 20 Av. Nte corner with 12 Norte.
- Tulum: the terminal is located on the main avenue of the city between Jupiter and Alfa streets. It has no loss, the town of Tulum is small.

ADO destinations from Riviera Maya to archaeological sites:
The ADO transport line takes advantage of its usual routes to make courtesy stop in the archaeological zones that remain in their itineraries, as is the case of Chichén Itzá, Cobá and Tulum.
You must show up half an hour before departure at the terminal. You can buy bus tickets on the ADO website, where there are sometimes discounts on early purchases.
Chichén Itzá in ADO:
The bus drops you at the entrance of the ruins, where you buy your ticket to Chichén Itzá. There are restaurants and services at the entrance or in the village of Piste, one kilometer from the ruins. The bus picks you up at the same place it left you.

- From Playa del Carmen: It leaves at 8 am from the central terminal of the ADO, it has a journey of 3:50 hours. 292 Mexican pesos each way. Return at 4:30 pm to Playa del Carmen.
Cobá in ADO:
There is not much public transport that goes to Cobá, do not be late for the bus. The bus drops you 500 meters from the entrance to the ruins, in front of the Cobá lagoon. There are restaurants and services at the entrance and in the town of Cobá. The bus picks you up at the same place it left you. There are interesting cenotes in the area that you may have time to get to know by going to them by taxi from the entrance of Cobá.
- From Playa del Carmen: It leaves at 9 am from the central terminal of the ADO, it has a journey of 2 hours. 126 Mexican pesos each way. Return at 3:10 pm to Playa del Carmen.

Tulum in ADO:
Many ADO buses that leave from Playa del Carmen to Tulum make a courtesy stop at the archaeological zone. From where the bus leaves you, you have 1 kilometer to the entrance to the enclosure (with the possibility of doing the kilometer by tourist train).
You can also reach the archaeological site of Tulum in collective transport or van from Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
- From Playa del Carmen: They leave at 8 am from the central terminal of the ADO, it has a journey of 45 minutes. 62 Mexican pesos each way. Several return from the same point trucks.

Hello, very interesting info! In a week I will be traveling to the area. My query is as follows: the return trip from the tulum ruins to Playa del Carmen, how is it? That is, is there a possibility to take a return ticket in advance? Or just one goes to the bus stop and takes it there?
I would appreciate your info! Regards!
Antonella
Hello Antonella,
If you go with your ADO ticket to the ruins, they give you the information back, the schedules they handle.
If you go by bus: you must go out on the road and stop the buses that go to Playa, simple. What happens is that the ruins are at 3 kilometers from the bus stop in Tulum, and they leave full: for this reason sometimes or stop at the ruins. If you take a while and there is no way, I advise you to take a bus to the town of Tulum (for 10 pesos more or less), and return from there to Playa. It is the way to solve.
Best regards, good trip.
Hi Sandra, is it possible to take taxis from the Parada de Playa del Carmen?
We're going to a hotel near Akumal. (right in the middle of Tulum and Playa)
Hello Rocío, there is a taxi rank right next to the bus. The taxis in stop are somewhat more expensive, the prices are official, the truth that I do not know, but they can show you the price list. You are not going to have any problems with it. Akumal is beautiful 🙂
Have fun,
Hello! I will be around Cancun in the first days of April and I would like to go to Tulum Chichen Itza and Coba. I would like to stay 1 night to enjoy well. What options do you recommend? Thanks since now!!
Hello Lorena, if I understood well that you want two days and one night to see all this, I would go to Chichen from Cancun (there are lockers where you can leave your luggage at the entrance if it suits you), and the same day I would take a bus to Valladolid and there to Cobá. I would sleep in Cobá to visit the archaeological zone early and then leave for Tulum. If you do it like this in a single day it gives you time. From Chichén, buses leave from the town towards Valladolid, and from Valladolid to Cobá bus. From tulum you can get to Cancun that day too, there are buses until late to Cancun. Any doubt you will tell me.
Good way,
Hello, I'm going to Cancun in March and I want to go to Tulum by bus, my doubts are, is there a round-trip bus from the terminal to the archaeological zone of Tulum? If so, where is it taken, what is the cost and until what time do they stop happening ?, and to go to Coba from Cancun as I do? I would love to see in a day, but I also like to know the towns or cities, so better 1 day for each one ... In advance thank you
Hi Gloria, the buses from ADO to Tulum are round trip, it is a special service that the company does. There are also groups that travel the Riviera Maya that leave you in front of the archaeological zone. Keep in mind that on the way back, the buses leave when they are full of Tulum, and the archaeological zone is only 4 kilometers, so it is possible that it would be better for you to go to Tulum to go out from there if you take this option. I leave you link to expand the info with prices and schedules: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/como-ir-de-cancun-a-playa-del-carmen-y-tulum/
Regarding Cobá, I also link you so you can see how to go: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/cenotes-en-coba/
I hope you serve, any doubt you tell me. Good way.
Hello Sandra, your advice has been very useful, a question if I arrive in Puerto Morelos in what way I can move to Iberostar Paraíso Beach in public transport, I thank you.
Hello Fabiola, from Puerto Morelos you can take the combi to the entrance of the hotel, as long as you do not go with a big bag or suitcase, because the combis do not allow it. If you go with luggage, you should take a taxi to the hotel, I do not know how much you would get, really. I leave information that may help you: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/como-ir-de-cancun-a-playa-del-carmen-y-tulum/
Best regards, good trip.
Hello, I will be in Cancun soon and I want to visit Chichen Itza but I am short of time, I plan to go on Monday 26 of August but that same day my flight leaves at 9: 50 at night, if I take the bus I could take the trip and bequeathed on time?
Hi Sofia, the ADO bus leaves from Chichen at 16: 30 from Chichen and it takes 3 hours and 20 minutes to Cancun, you would be arriving on 8. From the terminal you can take a bus to the airport or taxi, it would be about 30 minutes. I don't know if your flight is national or international to calculate the time to check in before. Verify all information before boarding the bus with ADO.
Warm regards,
