The Republic of Mexico borders Belize and Guatemala. More and more travelers are crossing to Belize from Mexico, a simple border and a country with a lot to offer. Let's see what you need to cross to Belize.
Mexico limits in the south with Guatemala y Belize. Belize is less than 6 hours by road from Cancun, the main entrance to the Yucatan Peninsula. More and more travelers cross to Belize and are surprised by this country of great cultural and natural wealth.
Mexico and Belize they share a total of 278 kilometers, 193 on the mainland and 85 on the maritime boundary.
Mexico Border (Chetumal / Santa Elena) - Belize (Corozal):
This border unites the city of Chetumal, capital of the state of Quintana Roo de Mexico, which is 10 kilometers from the border, with Corozal, about 13 kilometers from the side of Belize.
The border between Mexico and Belize can be crossed by by land and sea. Opens every day of the year, I think I remember that 24 hours. I do not recommend traveling at night, if you go in your own car, leave the road at dusk. The main reason is the poor lighting of the roads, in addition to the usual security you must take on your trips.
I recommend you: whenever you can cross borders early in the morning. or mid-morning, avoiding Sundays and holidays, where some services may be closed. Carry one photocopy of the papers that you are going to require the car at the border.
In all border crossings there are money changers or money changers. You can exchange a small amount with them if you do not have local currency, or wait to find a bank or exchange house on your way. I do not usually exchange money at the borders.
The Free Zone of Belize:
Between Mexico and Belize, before crossing the border of Belize, there is the call Free zone, in Santa Elena. What is the Free Zone? It is a commercial zone free of taxes where the Mexican usually travels to buy at cheaper prices products such as alcohol, tires or brand clothing. To go here you do not need to do paperwork, just take your documentation (IFE / INE) in order, you do not need a passport. Many Mexicans enter the Free Zone, do their shopping and return.
General requirements to cross the border:
Do you need a passport?
The travelers we need passport valid for at least 90 days after the date of departure from Belize. It is always advisable to travel with your passport valid for 6 months.
Do you need a visa to enter Belize? Rates
Mexicans and Spaniards do not need visa. Check if your nationality needs a visa to enter Belize here. To entrance to Belize is not paid, you will do it to the leave the country, One 40 usd, if you have stayed more than 24 hours in the country.
Do you need a visa to enter Mexico? Rates
Countries which they do not need a visa to enter Mexico: click here Spaniards, Argentines, Colombians, Peruvians, Brazilians, Chileans No. They need a visa. In Mexico you do not pay when you enter, yes you pay when leaving if you've been in Mexico for more than 7 days: 332 mxn (Mexican pesos) per person leaving by land. Attention: for the chaotic and fluid transit to the Free Zone, sometimes you jump without wanting the Mexican booth and they do not seal you (ring) when leaving, you simply pass the exit, you will not be the first. In fact, twice I have crossed from Mexico to Belize, they never sealed me the entry or exit from Mexico. They have modernized the border Mexican booths, surely this helps with the confusions.
If you return to your country by plane from Mexico, you will have to pay the airport departure fees (55 euros) provided that a period of more than 7 days of stay in the country has elapsed.
Cross the border by public transport:
- BY BUS: The main transportation company in this area of Mexico is ADO. This company has direct services to Belize from Mérida and from Cancún. With stops in Playa del Carmen and Tulum in Mexico, and with stops in Corozal, Orange Walk and Belize City across the border. It is a comfortable way to cross the border. From Chetumal There are other bus companies that cross the border, in the bus terminal you find options. There is also the option of a bus that takes you Tikal, riding a Guatemala.
If you go to Tikal this company has buses from Chetumal, Bacalar or Riviera Maya to Flores (Guatemala)
- IN COLLECTIONS: a few blocks from the terminal, there is collective van transport, somewhat more uncomfortable but cheaper. It leaves you at the border where you must cross on your own and catch another bus on the other side. The buses go to Corozal, Orange Walk and Belize City
- IN PRIVATE TAXI: is another option to cross the border, the taxi driver must pay for car insurance in Belize. I honestly do not know the prices of this option, it depends on the route you want to make. From Chetumal to the border a taxi charges between 70 and 90 pesos.
Cross the Mexico-Belize border by car:
It tienes private car It is very easy to cross to Belize.
What roles do you need to cross?
- passport
- driver's license
- the circulation card / vehicle registration certificate
If the car is not in your name you will need a written permission of the one that appears like owner in the card of circulation
Procedures with car to cross the border:
- Seal the exit from Mexico: stop at the Mexico border post to seal the exit. Sometimes the border booth of Mexico is not very clear and you do not seal. I have accidentally skipped it more than once, and then from the beginning it is somewhat confusing for not having the exit role. As the Free Zone exists, the border booth of Mexico is somewhat blurred.
- Fumigate the car: before reaching the border, there is a house on the right where you should disinfect the car (price: 100 mxn), something that you are forced to do. Deliver the paper at the border. You must also fumigate your car in Mexico.
- You need a circulation insurance: after crossing the border you must take out compulsorily un circulation insurance. There is a booth (it is located about 500 meters from the border) where you must take out your vehicle insurance. The approximate prices are: per day-USD 6, 7 days-USD 15, one month-USD 30. It is mandatory to have this insurance, if the police stop you (they surely will) and you do not carry it, you will have problems. The insurance is visible in the car, on the front window. Caution: on Sundays the booth where they manage insurance is closed. We ended up getting it in Orange Walk, waking up the one who runs the gas station there, who also processes the paper, but it was a sacatiempos doing so. Things of travel, you know that in the end everything is resolved with desire.
Can you cross into Belize by rental car from Mexico?
Yes you can, but there are very few companies from Mexico that give the option of crossing into Belize by rental car. American Car Rental if it does, you will have to pay an extra approximately 180 usd for this procedure to the car company. Another company where you can also rent, as a traveler noted in comments, is Price Car Rentals, and carry out the free process. Sure there are other car rental companies, but I don't know.
Cross the maritime border from Mexico to Belize:
Another way to cross to Belize is by sea. Belizean ferries depart from the port of Chetumal. I leave the page websites where do you get this information

How about Sandra,
Excellent your information, thanks for sharing.
I would like to ask you a couple of questions, I hope you could answer them.
1.- What do you consider best to travel from Caye Caulker to Chetumal, I mean how cheap and how comfortable or not it is to do it by the Watertaxi or the other take the Watertaxi to Belize City and do it by bus to Chetumal.
2.- Do you know exactly what tax I should pay to enter Belize as a Mexican? I would come traveling from Guatemala entering after visiting Tical and leaving for Chetumal.
Thanks for your information.
Regards,
Hi Serge, I'm glad it's useful for your trip.
The first question I do not know how to answer first since I was never in the watertaxi, but the service as I have been told is comfortable and timely. According to the desire you have to go to Cayo Caulker, I think it is a good option. But bus. From Tikal there is a bus that takes you to Belize, sure in any agency there they give you this information easily. On taxes, entrance to Belize you do not pay, on departure about 40 usd. Crossing from Guatemala to Belize you also pay a similar amount ... at borders you always have to leave wool, you know.
Any other thing we are in contact, good trip!
I will travel to Belize with my boyfriend to meet we will arrive in Chetumal, what do you recommend we go by land or by ferry?
Hello Milagros, because the two options are very good, it depends on what you are looking for on your trip. The ferry crossing takes you to the keys and from there you organize the rest of the trip. You can spend a few days in the keys, go on excursions and return by sea again to Chetumal, that's very good. But it totally depends on what you have planned.
Have a good trip ?
Hi, I read your post, I have a question, my partner and I wanted to travel to Cancun by land for a walk and we wanted to go through the border of Chetumal, do you know if they gave the tourist visa right there? We are from El Salvador? An important fact now we went to the response of the embassy of Mexico here in my country, but they did not give it to us? It will be good to always risk leaving so maybe being on the border they give it to us, we had already made the reservation in Cancun to the hotel where we were going to arrive.
Hello travelers. I'm sorry I do not have the answer to your question. My travel experience is that visas are not obtained at the borders but at the embassies or consulates of the country, or through travel agencies that facilitate the procedures. The embassy of Mexico in Belize is in Belmopan, I do not know if it would be easier to get there. I give you the contact: http://embamex.sre.gob.mx/belice/index.php/embajada I hope you get it, we are in contact. Good way guys!
Hello, a friend needs to travel with her youngest child, by plane from Colombia, to Belize, and from there go overland to Cancun, her nationality is Venezuelan, being her Venezuelan nationality, she requires a visa to enter Belize, and she will require Visa to cross the border to Mexico via Cancum, ?? He carries all the documentation with him (but he does not have a visa from either of the two Belize-Mexico countries) and he also carries an invitation letter from a friend or relative who lives in Cancun! Could you inform me, and give me price of some plan of travel by land,? Thanks!!
Hi Susan. Venezuelans do not require a visa to enter Mexico. Venezuelans do not require a visa to enter Belize. I refer you to this page of the Belize embassy in case the information suits you: https://www.embajadadebelize.org/belice/pasaporte-y-visas.php
Regarding the trip, from Belize City there is a bus line to Mexico, it is the ADO.
I imagine that other countrymen will have advised you for the trip. Best of luck, a warm hug.
How it is possible for us to travel this obligatory route is with a visa for Cubans
Hello Vladimir, Cubans need a visa to enter Mexico. On this website we only know the practical information to enter as tourists, we do not have other information to support you no matter how much you want. Any support of this type here you have us.
Best of luck,
Hello! We are three friends who want to visit yucatan. We are in Guatemala and the best routa would be to go through Belize .. But I read that Costa 40dolares ?? Input and output?
Hi guys,
When leaving Belize it costs 40 usd, and when I leave Guatemala I think it is also paid, I do not remember how much.
From Tikal you have the option of bus to Mexico, crossing Belize (it supposes two borders), or going direct to Mexico towards Frontera Corozal, from here to Palenque (three and a half hours) and then to the Yucatan Peninsula (it is cool because it crosses along the Usumacinta River). In Flores agencies they inform you of your options.
I hope I have helped you, anything else you will already say.
Good road travelers!
Hello, I just need to go out and get the exit stamp from Mexico and re-enter as a tourist but me. Is it scary that they won't let me enter Mexico again, will it be very complicated with migration?
Hello Laura Maria, we are very sorry that we do not have an answer to what you are asking, because it is beyond our knowledge why the authorities give access in each case. We wish you all the luck in the world and hopefully you can go in and out without problems. You should leave Mexico for 48 or 72 hours, you cannot leave and enter the same day (that's for sure). Best of luck.
Hello Laura, were you able to leave and return as a tourist on this border? I'm in the same situation.
Hello Eli, yesterday a tourist guide friend from Mexico came to the border with Belize and confirms that it is still closed today.
If we know when they open, I'll let you know.
Regards,
Hello Laura, I am in the same situation as you, were you able to leave Mexico and re-enter without problems? If so, how long did you stay in Belize?
Thank you
Excellent information ... I'm going from Ecuador to Cancun, I plan to spend 5 days in Cancun and then go to Belize and Guatemala, and then return to Cancun, where I will not even fly back.
If I make more than 7 days in a non-continuous period, do you know if I still have to pay?
Hello Arturo, the 7 days are continuous, you should not pay in shorter stays, although you accumulate different inputs and outputs.
Very good trip 🙂
Hello Laura, we would like to know how long it takes (approx) to cross the border between Mexico and Belize by land and in the same way, the one between Belize and Guatemala.
Hello Nicole, they are not borders with a lot of traffic, they are usually simple steps of 30 minutes at most if everything is in order.
Have a good trip ?
Hi Sandra, I'm Haitian. What do I need to travel from Belize to Mexico?
Hello Gretchina, as a Haitian citizen you need to have a valid and current passport, and the corresponding visa. At the border they do not issue it, you must get it in your country or at your embassy.
I hope you get the information.
Regards,
Sandra Hello, my name is jigains do not speak Spanish, so Portuguese. But my question is that I am an Angolan living in Brazil and I want to visit Belize during the holidays but here there is no embassy or consulate in São Paulo. And what I do to get the Belize visa helps me
I appreciate already.
Hello Jigains, as far as I know, the only way to get your visa is through your embassy or consulate in your country. It is best to contact them, even if they are not in Sao Paulo, there is a headquarters in Brazil: http://www.embaixadadeangola.com.br/v2/ If you have Brazilian nationality, you can contact the Brazilian embassy in Belize: http://www.embajadadebrasil.org/brasil/embajadas/america-central-y-caribe/belice.php#.WxfqgEgvzIU
Best of luck,
It is a problem to cross in your own car on Sunday, effectively everything closed and you are forced to carry insurance that only they sell.
They treat you like a delinquent .. It's not worth going, ALL very lonely
Hello Víctor, it is a problem to cross on Sunday, it took us about two hours to resolve the issue of insurance. It is also more than proven that it is an insurance that any police then asks you during the trip, so you must have it. A thousand thanks for sharing your experience, sure it serves other travelers.
Good way,
Hello good night a question I am from Veracruz how much more or less would it cost me to travel to belize and stay 1 week there and return $$$ how much?
Hello Iván, I tell you how you can make the budget, this is how it serves as a guideline for any plan: look at what an ADO ticket costs from your origin, look for prices in a hotel search engine like trivago from where you are going to stay, according to your taste in Meals, if you like to eat local and popular or expensive restaurants, search Tripadvisor for restaurants of the places you will visit and get an estimate of prices. Add border and transportation expenses according to your travel plan in that week, in addition to tourist visits and activities (also on tripadvisor you find activity prices). There is a lot of budget data that depends entirely on the person's travel plan. I hope you serve the guide, have a great trip
Hello, good evening. I am from Argentina and I am a tourist to Mexico but I want to stay in Mexico and I plan to go to Belize. I need to know if leaving Mexico I will have permission and if I can go out and enter again ...
Thank you
Hello, Elizabeth. I think you should be a minimum of 48 hours out of the country to be resealed as a tourist to Mexico. You do not have to have problems with this, there are several friends who have used this way here and in other countries, to extend your stay. Greetings and luck!
How about, in Belize, you drive to the left as in Great Britain? The insurance for the car is obviously purchased for damages to third parties, right?
Thank you
Hello Mario, although he belonged to the Commonwealth, he drives on the right. It is mandatory to drive in Belize with insurance of the country: there are exclusive controls for the subject of insurance, the police fine you and you block the car until you have it. Regards,
The information shown is very valuable. In the next few days I will leave from Cancun to Tikal and would like to know what places they recommend and if a motorcycle pays the same as a car.
Greetings from cancun
Hello Jose, what a good motorcycle route awaits you.
I think I remember that a motorbike pays something less, as it happens in tolls, but I can not assure you, I'm sorry.
In Belize there is the Hummingbird Highway, a very cool road to drive, landscapes and layout, if you want to do a few kilometers more, it is not Tikal road. It leaves from Belmopan to the south, towards Dangriga. In Belize on the way to Tikal you can sleep in San Ignacio, the surroundings have several archaeological and natural areas to visit.
In Guate, before arriving to Tikal, you can stop in Yaxhá and get to know that area as well.
I do not know what travel plan you take, but it is this route from Cancun to Tikal you have many stops, and Tikal the icing!
If you want to specify more, we continue with it.
Regards,
Good morning Sandra,
I will be doing the tour but from Chetumal Belize and conclude in Guatemala. I plan to visit the archaeological site of Xunantunich, to stay in San Ignacio. Then to Tikal- the flowers (possibly to stay in the flowers) - old guatemala but in this last section I do not know if there are trucks that take you flowers to the old guatemala.
Can you give me some recommendation?
Please.
Hello Talia,
From Flores you have several possibilities to get to Antigua. In Guatemala work very well, the tourist groups, you pay umás but you go with other travelers in comfortable vans. Between Flores and Antigua there is this type of service, in any agency of Flowers asks.
You will see that the journeys are simple, they offer different possibilities. You can also go from San Ignacio to Tikal on a tour, as appropriate.
Any questions you write me, good trip Talia.
Hello Sandra, I have French customers who entered Mexico by land from Guatemala, the customs agent informed them that they will have to pay to leave Mexico if they stay more than 7 days. They are going to go out by plane, do you know where and how much do they have to pay?
Thank you very much
Hello Audrey,
They will pay at the same airport, when leaving. From departure rates by air, 50 euros are being paid on flights from Spanish lines, but I do not know exactly the answer.
I hope it helps you. Regards,
HELLO! excellent post, very useful information that we thank you for sharing. With my husband we plan to travel hitchhiking from Mexico to Chile. Just doing this tour, Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Chetumal, Belize, Guatemala ... we have had a hard time finding information from travelers who have made the route by stopping ... have you had information from some travelers or any experience in that sense? Regards!!!
Very good ... a good adventure awaits you, good!
Just today I picked up a team of Canadians making a stop in Yucatan. It is not usual to see travelers like that, but they do see each other. They were told that the Yucatan Peninsula is easier and safer than Chiapas, that's why they started here. Far from the tourist coast, among locals, it is customary to take a ride or a ball to help, at least in interior areas, by locating. For Guate they were advised to move by local bus, no stopping cars on the road. It is not information that can contrast much, the truth. I do not know anything about Belize, I always went by car and I did not see a car stop: it's a country where the majority of the population travels by bus, buying a car is expensive and gas is too, so those who drive by car do not get together with those of the bus. Although it is true that there is a lot of foreign residents with cars that can take pity on you 🙂
I'm going to ask to see if I can get you some more information, and I'll write you to the mail.
Greetings travelers, very good way!
hello guys I pretend to start this route in a few weeks I'm from chile equal, if they could help I would appreciate it ... I know it's been a long time but maybe read this post greetings kari
friend
Thank you for sharing very valuable information.
They ask me how the thing is in the ADO bus. There is transportation to Belize Cancun. It is comfortable??
What is paid ?? Does passport deal with being Mexican?
And foreigners? should they stop, seal documents and ask for the visa again, being European? '
Thank you,
Hello Alain,
The ADOs are comfortable, the price of the trip I do not know.
The passport is always necessary, any person of any nationality needs a passport to travel outside of their country. The visas are only required by some nationalities, you have the linked list of those that do need it and those that do not. Mexicans do not need a visa. Visas are not processed at the border, they are made in embassies or consulates before the trip.
All nationalities need to do paperwork when crossing the border: ADO casualties, you cross the border on foot and do the paperwork, and you continue by bus on the other side.
If something is not clear to you I try to help you Alain.
Regards,
Sandra
Hello Sandra,
Thank you very much for all the information you give, to all of us who prepare a trip, it makes planning a lot easier for us. Good to meet people like you, always eager to help. As we have already told you, we are planning a trip to the Yucatan peninsula for this year, we will tell you about it.
A greeting.
Inma and Francis (Infra).

Thanks for the comment. You know, as I can do a cable travelers 🙂 You will enjoy these lands a lot and if I can help you do something, I will be delighted.
Best regards!
Hello Sandra. My name is Omar, I am in Tenosique Tabasco Mexico. My question is the following, my wife is Guyanese, and next month she will enter through Belise to cross the Mexican border and be able to visit me, I would like to know if there could be any problem for her to cross the Belise border to Mexico when she visits me with border staff. Thank you
Hello Omar, if your wife has what is required to enter the country, there is no problem, sometimes there are corrupt police officers who abuse the authority by taking extra dollars (it has happened to us in various parts of the Planet). But with your passport in order and visa if required in your case (for Mexico the citizens of French Guiana do not require a visa), you should not have problems to enter as a tourist with a history of background without problem. I can't honestly talk about the border with customs.
Hopefully soon you can meet, best regards to Tenosique.
Hello, I'm in Merida, and I want to know how soon I get the ticket to the free zone to go to the casinos for a weekend and what hotel do you recommend that is cheap, please?
Hi Marta, if we don't give that information in writing, it's because we don't have it, we owe it to you.
Thanks for your information, very good.
You know if To go to Free Zone in my own car I need a passport, if it takes place to stay in a free zone or do I have to leave and return, does my stay have any cost there and my purchases generate some payment when leaving?
Hello Ivette,
To enter the Free Zone from Mexico you only need your IFE / INE if you are Mexican or carry your passport if you are a foreigner. The Free Zone is like a large fenced commercial center, where you enter and leave after your purchases. In the outskirts there is some lodging, and Chetumal is just a few kilometers away. The transit between Mexico to the Free Zone and return to Mexico is constant, it is very common. Your purchases do not generate additional cost upon returning to Mexico. If you pass the border to Belize, you do need a passport.
I hope you answer, greetings.
Hello, your information is good, and I am interested in making the trip to Belize City, but I am in doubt where you can leave the vehicles in case you want to cross to Caye Caulker, you know your place or safe pension where you can I leave?
Greetings.
Hi, Raul,
I'm sorry I do not have this information, in Belize City I've only been passing through. I'm sure there are parking lots near the pier. We left the car in Dandriga three days in the parking lot of the boatmen who crossed us to Tobacco Cay and we had no problem.
Good luck on your trip, good way!
Hello! I found your article super nice. I am Chilean and I am in Cancun for 11 days ... I still have 5 days left and I had planned to go to Belize. Do you know if I can go alone for the day? How do I buy the ticket back to Cancun? Will I have a problem when leaving and entering Mexico?
regards
Hello Felipe,
You can cross only for a day, there's no problem with that. From the ticket back to Cancun I do not know how to say, if you are here ask directly in the ADO. I do not know what will give you time to see in a single day in Belize and return, I see it very fair. Sorry I can not help you anymore.
Greetings and you will tell us about your adventure of crossing 🙂
Hello, I am also Chilean and I want to do the same, finally went to Belize? If so, did you do it for less than 24 hours? How much did they charge you? You sealed your passport by going back to Mexico and they gave you 6 months as a tourist? I need to renew my tourist days in Mexico, why do I ask you so many questions? I hope you or someone from the forum can answer my questions, thank you! and very useful information
Hi Matias, I can not speak to you personally because I am not in your situation, but something sure is that you do not have your passport stamped with a new entry to Mexico if you do not spend more than 24 hours out of the country. I hope you answer someone who has had the experience directly.
Regards,
Sandra
Hello, my boyfriend is from France and he has very little time left on his visa as a tourist and we want to go to Belize for a few days to obtain a nu en or permit for 6 months as a tourist in a doctor, do you think it is possible? Me plus me mexican
Hello Barbara, I know several people who do this without problem. If you go on vacation for a few days I doubt they will tell you anything. Some only leave 48 hours when they just finish the tourist hinge and it is more suspicious, to say. Check well if the land border is open due to a pandemic, contact customs.
Greetings, any questions you tell me
Hello Barbara, Have you been able to leave and re-enter this border? How long do you have to be out of the country?
I'm in the same situation.
Hi Matias, I do not know if you already crossed to Belize for the renewal of the visa. Can you tell me how you went with it? How much time did you have to spend in Belize for it? I appreciate all the information that you can provide as I am in the same case.
Hello Frida, as Matías does not answer I try to help you.
Minimum you must be 48 hours for renewal, but as it happens in almost all borders you are going to ask more or less questions according to your nationality, stamps of your passport and what you say you are going to do to Belize. Of return the same, according to you touch. More and more people installed by Riviera Maya without permanent residence in Mexico use this border for this purpose, and ask more. Only that to take into account.
Greetings chordal, I hope it serves you.
Hello I was reading your comments and I thought they were great I have a doubt I travel to Belize in May and I want to do some shopping in the free zone and visit a friend in Belize and I want to see a friend in Mexico who lives inside near the free zone but I do not know your address how much is the cost of entering and leaving Mexico in a day or two if I stay at home and return the next day greetings
Hello Pedro,
I do not know the answer for sure, I know that when you cross border to renew tourist visa you must be 48 hours or 72 outside of Mexico, I do not remember, and I think there is a maximum of hours that you can spend without paying the entrance and exit, no I know the data. If you have been for more 7 days in Mexico, you will pay 332 mxn when leaving, and leave Belize for 40 usd. I hope it serves you something, if you find out, tell us that it will be useful to other travelers.
Best regards!
Hello, good night, I am looking forward to leaving Spain and looking for a safe and safe place
Where to rest my umilde Juvilacio, what do you advise from this Caribbean country?
sun greeting from Zaragoza and memories of the vijen del pilar,
Hello Ramon,
It is a very personal question to find your corner in the world ..., the area of Plasencia is where most foreigners reside, it is the most expensive on the coast. Another such as Dandriga and Hopkins are cheaper, in the southern part of Belize the services and infrastructure is lower. From the interior I like the area of San Ignacio or Belmopán. I do not know if you know the country a bit, I leave you another link to get an idea: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/belice-que-ver-hacer/
Regards,
Hello Sandra
very good comments, gràcias
in May Xevi and I started our trip from Barcelona - Cancun to Uruguay by bicycle
we would appreciate any comments until you cross Guatemala and continue south
cordial abraçada
Hello Andreia, congratulations for your adventure on a bicycle, it will be a fantastic trip.
Being a very broad and long question, I would say that if you want to get to Cancun we have a beer and I help you as much as I can with the information you have, do you think? I have known several bicycle travelers, it is always a pleasure to share experiences.
Salut nois,
Sandra
Good evening Sandra, how are you?
I was reading your comments and the answers are very helpful! Maybe you can help me with this: I am from Argentina and I buy a motorcycle here in Mexico to travel throughout Central-South America. The issue is that as a foreigner there are certain requirements that prevent me from owning the motorcycle, because I am not a resident here. For the moment I have the original invoice endorsed and giving me the rights, the copy of the IFE of the former owner, the purchase-sale ticket (not notarized), the circulation card valid 2016 and a REPUVE receipt that the motorcycle does not is stolen Today we had the first police control in Mexico and everything was fine to present the documentation, but our great fear is to get closer to the border to begin our trip to the south and to keep the motorcycle for not fulfilling the total ownership.
Can you please guide me a little with this topic?
Thank you in advance. Regards!
Ayelen
Hello Ayelen,
We had a similar situation when crossing the border to Belize to take the car on behalf of another. They asked us, in addition to the circulation card, a written permit from the owner who appeared on the circulation card (the owner, who was a friend in this case, faxed it to the border).
A similar case occurs when renting a car and crossing the border, the company must give you written permission as owners of the vehicle, to authorize you to take it out of the country.
Hopefully I clarify something the answer. Any other thing happy to help you.
Best regards, travelers
Sandra
Hi, Sandra, I am Aura, I want to go to Cancun from Guatemala, which transport you recommend me, and if you have to take a visa, we are planning to stay for 6 days in Mexico.
Hi Aura, Guatemalans must get a visa for Mexico. From Guatemala you can go via Belize or via Mexico, going via Belize represents more procedures and paperwork for crossing two countries (for Belize you do not need a visa). Look at this transport: https://www.facebook.com/Marlin-Espadas-M%C3%A9xico-SA-de-CV-911522482202854/ Via Mexico direct you can go from Antigua or Panajachel in tour buses that take you to San Cristóbal de las Casas (the agencies there sell the tickets). From San Cristóbal there are 17 hours by bus to Cancún. Obviously the plane is the fastest and most comfortable according to the possibilities of each one.
I hope the information is usefull. Best regards.
hello good morning first of all tell you that this information is very helpful, my question is me as a Mexican if I enter and I am not more than one day to my exit do not charge me the 40 us
I want to cross by boat or boat to Honduras know where it comes from
Beforehand thank you very much…
Hello, I'm glad to help you.
Yes, as a Mexican you can enter and leave the same day, or less than 24 hours, and do not charge taxes. The ships to Honduras, Puerto Cortez, depart from different ports of Belize: from Belize City (Saturdays), Dandriga (daily) or Placencia (Friday). Check well this information that may have varied. I leave a link to the transport website: http://aboututila.com/TravelInfo/Belize-Honduras-Ferry/index.htm
Warm regards,
Hi. One question, does not charge for being less than 24 hrs in Belize is for all nationalities (I am Chilean) or only for Mexicans?
Hello Daniel, if I'm not wrong it's for all nationalities, but I got the doubt. Let's see if someone tells us.
Regards,
Morning
Reviewing the comments, the following question arises
We are Mexican and taking advantage of holidays in the peninsula we want to cross the border to Belize from Chetumal to get to Tikal, we travel in my car. My question is if the cost of the $ 40 US is per person or is there a fee per car?
My car has plates from Mexico
Greetings and thanks for your response.
Hello Orlando,
The 40 usd are per person, you pay them when leaving Belize. Car you pay the 100 weights of fumigation and the insurance of the car that more or less is 1 day-6 USD, 7 days-15 USD, one month-30 USD. Remember to take the photocopies that you require of the car. If you go to Tikal but return to Belize again, you have the option to do it on an excursion from San Ignacio, a highly recommended border town (so you do not have to do the paperwork in Guatemala for a day).
Very good way!
Hello Sandra!
We are in 2016 and I know that neither visa nor tax is needed
Now, I plan to go to Belize by private bus, I get off at the border, they seal me from the entrance?
And if I stay 48 hours, can I go back to Mexico as a tourist?
I am a foreigner
Thank you
Hello Santiago, that's how it works, yes.
My brother lived without residence in Guatemala for years, and every 6 months he left the country for 72 hours (he played that) to Mexico and then he returned as a tourist to Guatemala. It is something usual.
Warm regards,
I almost went back when I read that you paid 180 dlls because the company where you rented the vehicle gave you permission to cross the border. That's a robbery!!! I rent at pricecarrentals.com.mx and the procedure is free. A part that cheaper. But without a doubt the most comfortable option is to rent a vehicle.
Hello Rizo, what good data of yours, hopefully serve other travelers. I will look at the company and add it to the information.
Thank you very much!
Hello Rizo very helpful your comment, the family and I want to go in December to Belize, we arrived at Chetumal and we want to rent a car, it would be better to do it in Chetumal or in Belize? What else do you recommend to visit? greetings and thanks.
I'm from Peten I want to travel with my family to Chetumal but we want to go through Belize because the road is shorter than what I want to know if I can only pass with my passport or I have to get Visa and if I have to pay something.
Hello Janette, if you are from Guatemala you do not require a visa in Belize for the tourist stay until 30 days. At the entrance to Belize you do not pay, you will do it at the exit of the country, some 40 usd, if you have stayed more than 24 hours in the country. Regards,
Hi Sandra, I wish you could guide me, I am Mexican, I would like to travel by bus to the Belize Free Zone from Playa del Carmen, the bus arrives exactly to the free zone? Do I have to pay anything at the entrance or exit of the free zone? Is the free zone very large? Where do you recommend buying branded clothes? when leaving the free zone ... Where do I take my bus back? Is there a bus terminal? Are purchases in Belize mandatory with local currency? which is this? Is the exchange of pesos to that currency complicated? Thank you….
Hi Edgar, let's see if I can help you a little.
From Playa you have to take a bus to Chetumal (a little more than 4 hours, 300 pesos, get good discount with advance sale in ADO). Once in Chetumal you must take a combi or a collective taxi to get to the Free Zone, which is about 8 kilometers from Chetumal. Taxis and transporters tell you, I do not know the cost of this trip. In return you must do the same, taxis and buses pass near the entrance to Free Zone. The Free Zone is great, there are people who travel by car, you can pay in Mexican pesos. I could not recommend a specific place for brand clothes. The main products are brand clothing, tires and alcoholic beverages, which are much better priced than in Mexico.
Best regards, I hope you have your answers.
One more question, the buses that leave Playa del Carmen must say Belize free zone? or how do I get my ticket ... .. will it be easier to get to Campeche and from there to travel by bus? How much do you charge? Where do I take it? and on return? Thank you
Hello Edgar, I pass the official ADO website so you can look at the possibilities from Campeche and see the itineraries yourself, for sure it is useful for you: http://www.ado.com.mx/ado/index.jsp You can get the ticket at the ticket office and online. With the other answer I think I answered everything I knew to help you. If there is something else you tell me.
regards
Hello, we are 2 Argentines, we go to Cancun in September, we want to do 1 week in Belize, we would leave from the beach to Tikal, we still do not know where to go, if we rent a car and cross to Belize and then to Guatemala (flowers) or we go by bus The idea is to do everything you can on the way d beach-tikal-san pedro or dandriga (including blue hole and boat trips) any recommendations? Can you rent a car and cross borders? It's convenient bus? It is safe? We stop in san ignacio or flowers? Dandriga or san pedro? Which without the controls in the free zone, is there a cap? Thank you!!!
Hi guys, the times I've been to Belize I've done it by car, the bus or car choice is very personal, both are good. If you only want to visit Tikal in Guatemala, you can do it on a trip or on your own from San Ignacio in one day. The Hol Chan Marine Reserve, which is visited from Cayo Caulker, is highly recommended. About car rental at the entrance you can read the information I give. Dandriga is a coastal town with a Garífuna black population and San Pedro is a key where cruise tourism arrives, they are two different scenarios. Plasencia is a good beach destination in Belize, find information on the blog. With all the affection I tell you that I think you should read more about the destination and maturing your trip, that surely you have a spectacular time. On the question of the controls of the free zone I did not understand it. We continue with the subject.
Greetings and very good trip.
Hello Sandra, as there are price tickets from Argentina to Belize, the question is, should you pay to leave Belize with nothing more than hours, what do you need to get a bus to Playa del Carmen? and on return I understand that if you must pay to leave Mexico. Thank you
Hello Alejandro, in theory if you have stayed less than 24 hours in Belize you would not pay. Leaving Mexico, as you say, you must pay the fees. Greetings and good trip!
Hello good afternoon, very good all your information, thanks for sharing it with us, I have a question.
I am from Venezuela and I am a tourist in Mexico, my stay as a tourist expires and I want to renew it since I still do not work, I am with my uncles and I want to travel to Belize to renew the tourist visa in Mexico, I will travel alone . I will leave Playa del Carmen this 29 / 08 / 16 to the 11 and 40 pm for ADO since it is the only schedule, I will be arriving in Belize City at the 7 or 8am I think. What should I do to renew my stay in Mexico? I will stay in a hotel to be in Belize for a day since they tell me that I should be at least one day out of Mexico, should I pay anything when I enter Belize? And when I leave Belize and enter Mexico, do I have to pay something? Will my passport be sealed to enter Mexico again? How much time would you give me as a tourist again in Mexico? Should I bring some paper that says where I will stay in Mexico? Is the food economical in Belize? Thank you very much and nice day.
Hello Carbi, when you enter Belize you do not pay, you will do it at the exit of the country, some 40 usd. In Mexico you will not pay when you enter, you will do it when you leave, some 332 Mexican pesos (important that you do not skip the exit booth of Mexico to seal that you are going). When you return to Mexico and re-stamp your passport you have other months as a tourist (I think it's 6 more months, make sure it's 24 hours and no more time than you should be in Belize). Normal that you have doubts if you never crossed, sure you find economic food wherever you go to stay. Good luck!
Hello Sandra, very good information. I am Argentine, we will stay in Cancun and the idea is to know the surroundings by renting a car. How long is there by car from Cancun to the border? Is it possible to go and return in the day to Belize City? Is there a considerable price difference in the free zone with countries like Mexico in terms of clothing? Do I need a visa as an Argentine to enter Belize?
Hi Jorge, I'm sorry that I've been almost without coverage for days. From Cancun to the border about 5 hours there. As an Argentine, you do not need a visa to enter Belize. Go and return to Belize City on the same day from where Jorge? I did not understand well. Free zone prices are good on tires (tires), alcohol and some branded clothing. I really do not know how to specify if it's worth it in clothes.
Regards,
Hi Sandra, your posts are very good! They have served us so much!
We travel to Cancun with the idea of going to Belize. We arrived to Cancun at the 8: 50 am, do you know what would be the best option to arrive the same day at caye caulker? we know that from chetumal taxi to the 3: 30 pm ... we do not know how we can reach to get before the 3: 30 pm.
Hope you could help us to know the best option and get the same day to fall.
Thank you so much!!
Hello Dani, uf, I see it complicated arriving at that time because the option is in ADO buses, and the schedules do not match. The bus that goes to the 9: 30 of CUN arrives at the 15: 30 to Chetumal ... it does not give you the time. And by land entering Belize, you do not reach Cayo Caulker either. Between Cancun and Chetumal there are 5 hours by car, the only private car that takes you, but that would be expensive. I can not think of any other, that is not flying, and I do not know the combinations.
Greetings guys, I'm sorry ...
Hi. Thank you very much for so much valuable information. I ask you some questions ... I'm going to go from Playa del Carmen to Chetumal in my own vehicle and I want to leave it there and then go to Belize. Do you know if there are safe places to leave the car in Chetumal? From there it is convenient to enter Belize? I want to go to know and in passing I need to renew my tourist visa. Do you have any idea if they make problems with that when leaving Belize to reimage Mexico? I heard rumors that migrations are not giving more than 30 days xq there is much discomfort x so many people will do this visa tourist. And I the truth I would need at least three months. Will it be good for me to go to Guatemala? Do you have data on this? In that case I would go through Chiapas.
Another query and excuse so much annoyance ... Belize is very expensive to stay and eat fairly well? In which locality do you recommend staying a couple of days? I understand that there should be 48 or 72 hs (I do not know) to go back to Mexico.
Thank you.
Hello facu,
I'm sure you find in Chetumal secure parking, you can even talk to the hotel where you stay to leave a few days there. Safe car solution you will find, but I do not know how to give a specific parking. Regarding the rumors, the only information at first hand was from a Spanish girl from a month ago in your same situation who spent two nights in Belize City and returned without problems (I think there are 48 hours the minimum). Yes it is true that there is more movement than years ago on this border to go to renew tourist visas, and surely there are nationalities that see more transit.
On the other hand, I had also been told that 3000 bite weights were stamped by customs ... as all the rules are sometimes a lottery depending on who you have in front of you. Surely if you leave 48 hours you raise more suspicions than if you travel 7 days to Belize, but that's obvious.
If you go to the bus terminal in Chetumal, you will find it easy to get to Belize.
If I had to choose where to go in Belize, I would avoid Belize City and go to San Ignacio or Plasencia, both very backpacker places. But Cayo Caulker leaving by ferry from Chetumal. All these populations have several lodging options, from 15 usd hostels to more expensive hotels.
What you say about the Guatemalan border, you probably raise less suspicion, but I really do not know if it's worth going there to renew a visa.
I wish I had more testimonials to support you better in your decision. I do not find any trouble, and less with your polite manner.
Warm regards,
hello sandra, thanks for the information, some friends and I will cross from guatemala to belize, and from belize to chetumal, but our purpose was to be from 11 to 19 of february in cancun, and from there cancun our flight leaves for cop a colombia , in this case we would charge each of the 55 euros?
Hello Marcela, because in your case you must pay the departure fees, anyway, in most occasions on regular flights (such as Copa) those fees are included. Confirm the detail when buying the flight. In travel packages they do not usually include them to offer more attractive prices, and then you take the surprise to the exit.
Have a very good trip, best regards,
Hello, good morning, I've read every comment and I think it's going to be useful, the February 22 I'm coming to Belize and my idea is to go to Cancun, stay for a few days and then return to Belize to visit Cayo Caulker , my question is, does the company do direct trips from belize city to cancun? Or it leaves you earlier in some other city, thank you.
Hello Ramiro, ADO makes intermediate stops: in Belize they stop at Frontera Corozal and I think that for Orange Walk, and in Mexico they stop in Chetumal, Tulum, Playa del Carmen and I do not know if any more stops.
Good trip through these lands?
Hello! I'm from Argentina and in March I'm going to Cancun with a friend. We have only one way ticket, but I heard that in migrations (we go to Mexico City and from there to Cancun) they ask you for the exit ticket. If I buy a land ticket to leave Mexico, for example to Belize in Bus ... with that I will save myself from buying the ticket back to ARG? Greetings and thanks.
Hi Francisco, that's right, they ask for a round trip ticket. I do not know how to answer the question, in principle it should be OK with an exit ticket by land, but I do not know how it works. Verify with the same airline (it's something you should know), but with the consulate or embassy of Mexico. I hope you can tell us what happened to help other travelers in your situation, I am sorry I can not help you.
Warm regards,
Hello, thank you very much for the answer, and I forgot to ask another question, I travel from Argentina to Belize, is it recommended or requires a vaccine in particular?
Hello Ramiro, neither in Belize nor in Mexico vaccines are required. I'm going to add that data at the border entries, it's important.
Best regards, have a good trip.
Hello Sandra Salvadó
Thanks for the information, only with a few doubts. The payment that is made when leaving Belize the one of the 40 USD is per day ??
We plan to go with a group of motorcyclists from Mexico to Belize, enter on Friday morning and leave on Sunday at noon.
Only that doubt of the payment if it is per day or to what time of stay corresponds.
Hello Ramón, what a great getaway awaits you 🙂
The payment is for a stay exceeding 24 hours, it is not per day, it is a fixed payment of 40 usd when leaving Belize.
Good way, enjoy!
Hello Sandra,
that great your entry, so it's nice to look for info 🙂
but I have not been clear one thing .. I am Spanish and I am in Mexico with the tourist visa, and I have to leave Mexico to be able to renew it 6 more months. Until now I had left by plane and there they already stamp your passport with the date of departure (or arrival in the other country), which is what I need, and they give you a new migration form, but my question is if all this they will also do it by land. The bus will stop for us to check the papers and seal the exit / entrance? I was thinking of going with an ADO bus from Cancun to Belize. Well, I hope you know something jejej thank you very much!
Hello Rosa, how nice it is for you, thanks for the comment.
Going by land, by bus to Belize, you also go through these paperwork procedures. She was recently a Spanish girl in your same situation in ADO to Belize City, where she stayed for two days. If you can choose another destination to stay better than Belize City, it is not pleasant as a city to be. Another is to go by ferry to Cayo Caulker. But yes, the paperwork is obligatory with the stamps of entries and exits.
Warm regards,
A thousand thanks 🙂
Hello Sandra, how good your information helps a lot ... Hey, I'm from Venezuela and it's about to expire my permit as a tourist .. I was told by Belize that my passport could be stamped and I was already extending the stay for 6 months .. You could help me in what steps should I follow and what should I take .. Or if you know of a similar case? I would appreciate your help ..
Hello Fabiola, for cases like yours, since each time this border is more traveled by people in situations like yours, what I recommend is that you do not wait for the last days to renew tourist visa, because more suspicions are aroused, and more if You have different entry and exit stamps. Another recommendation is to look like a tourist, backpacker or traveler and have a credible story of why you were only a couple of days in Belize. From these more obvious recommendations, if you read with love the entrance you will see how to cross the border in ADO buses, by ferry or car. From Cancun bus leaves for Belize City: when the bus crosses the border, travelers have time to go down, seal and cross the border. In Belize, the ADO has stops at Frontera Corozal and Belize City, where it arrives at dawn. If you cross the border by ferry, it is better due to the fact that most people in your situation, to save money and speed up, do it with the ADO bus.
I hope it serves you, and if you can give us a recommendation for others when crossing, it will be great.
Warm regards,
I had planned to go with my brother-in-law, is he mexican noc if that helps me a little bit? And how long do I have to be in Belize to have my permit renewed?
You must be more than 24 hours to be sealed again, a couple of nights would be enough.
Any other doubt I try to help you.
Greetings Fabiola, sure you will not have problems 🙂
thanks, it was very useful for me all the info 🙂
How nice Cecilia, thanks for the comment 🙂
Hello Sandra…. I'm Karina from Chile and I'm two weeks away from starting a trip through Latin America
and I intend to start in Mexico and then cross to Belize and so down ... the topic that I have been reading all your comments that have served me the same but I have a problem that has been complicating me ... I have a round-trip ticket to Mexico and that I need to have it to enter the matter is that I do not want to use the return because I want to stay longer knowing the country and then leave by land for Belize or Guatemala .... my doubts are will I have a problem ?????? I do not intend to stay more than the 90 days of tourist but my passage is for 5 days ... and I pretend to say that I lost the flight and that's why I pass by land ?? according to your experience that will be able to happen, will they believe me or will I have to pay a very large fine ???? or what you recommend doing, I do not want to complicate myself anymore and I very much want to make this trip I have everything ready ....
I hope you can help me .. greetings
Hi Karina, as I understand it, if you leave Mexico within the period allowed as a tourist, at the exit or ask you for your exit ticket. It is only entry requirement, when leaving you should not worry, you have the right to extend your travel days. Do not exceed the tourist period and list.
Enjoy your trip, good way! ?
thanks Sandra you went to answer ... ya super then with all the faith I'm leaving ...
a hug
A pleasure, to enjoy the trip Karina! 🙂
Hi, I'm planning a trip to Chetumal and I want to visit Belize. It will be my first time crossing this border. What can I expect when crossing, is it like an American border? And if I take the bus from Chetumal I also have to pay? How safe is the border crossing?
Hello Cesar, this border is little traveled, you almost never have to stand in line, it is very easy to enter Belize, two entrance booths only. Passes in the transport you spend must pay, of course. I do not consider it a dangerous crossing.
I hope you clear doubts.
Regards,
Hello, I am from Ecuador and I would like to go to Belize, to know, how long they will give me to be there, I will be able to go to Mexico to know, because to enter Mexico they ask us for a visa and all that.
Hi roberto,
If you are from Ecuador you need a visa to enter Belize and Mexico. You must process it in your country. In Belize with a tourist visa you can be 30 days, in Mexico I think from 3 to 6 months.
Best regards, good way.
HELLO: AGAIN I ASKED. COULD YOU COUNT ME HOW WE PASSED THROUGH TERRESTRIAL CITY FROM BELIZE TO CANCUN? THANK YOU AND A STRONG EMBRACE FROM COLOMBIA.
Hello Armando, from Belize City, ADO (Mexican bus company) leaves for Cancún. In the bus terminal they sell you the ticket, I think they leave in the morning. When you pass the border, wait for the bus to do the entry procedures. That same bus can leave you in Chetumal, Tulum, Playa del Carmen or Cancun. I do not remember the price, I'm sorry.
Warm hug to Colombia 🙂
Hi Thank you very much for all the information contained on this page.
It has been 4 for months now that I am in Mexico and I intend to go to Tikal, I will be in Merida, I understand that it is convenient to go through Chetumal to Belize and from there to Guatemala. In that case, I should pay a tax when I leave Mexico, and if I only travel through Belize, I am for less than 24, I do not pay the tax in Belize. We are from Argentina, Chile and Italy.
After Guatemala would return to Mexico, would have to pay tax when leaving Guatemala?
Do you know other routes that link Guatemala with Mexico?
Hi Javier, what you say about taxes is correct. Sometimes at borders, as you know, payments are invented, but you're right. Leaving Guate if you must pay exit tax, I can not remember the amount by heart. You can go through two other borders to Tikal, I pass the links if you are interested in going from Mérida to Chiapas, and from here to Tikal: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/frontera-mexico-frontera-corozal-guatemala-bethel-rio/ https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/frontera-mexico-ciudad-de-cuauhtemoc-guatemala-la-mesilla-requisitos/
I hope it serves you and that you have a good path.
greetings travelers,
Good Morning
We are two friends We travel from Venezuela to Belize but we want to travel to Mexico (CanCun) for a week, more or less I read the route to travel. but as Venezuelans know, it is very difficult for us to enter other countries because of the immigration demand. I would like you to recommend which route is more comfortable or the border that has fewer problems if by land or by sea?
and if they ask for many requirements when entering?
Hi Eduardo, I am sure that the border by ship is more relaxed than the land border between Belize and Mexico. And so you visit Cayo Caulker in Belize, it's a good excuse 🙂 I remember that as Venezuelans you need a visa for Belize and they check that "temporary visitors must have 50 USD per day / per person, tickets in advance and all other documents for their Next destiny". For Mexico, you do not need a visa, you will probably be asked for a return ticket and ask for travel plans. but if you have it in order, they are more or less relaxed borders, at least what I know.
That you enjoy the trip very much, good luck in your way.
Hello sandra I am from the Dominican Republic I want to travel to Belize but I have a question as are the people of that country with foreigners because I tell you that at 16 years I have 27 I am deaf and I speak normal Spanish but I do not hear sometimes I read lips but mostly women or people who speak very slowly think you have some inconvenience
Hello Eddy, honestly I find it hard to value the Belizean from the perspective that you tell me. I was fortunate to live more than two years in the Dominican Republic, and I can affirm that the Belizean people are not as open and warm as the Dominican, pro that is very difficult to overcome. 😉 At the traveler level, they do not make much effort with tourists. Vocalization is very personal, especially that of the black population, so it may be difficult for you to read your lips. On the other hand, I am convinced that you always grow and you find people with a simple humanity that make travel easier.
I wish you a great trip Eddy,
From Cancun to Belize free zone by car what I have read are 3 hours in private car there is a limit of purchase and I can pay with national currency or I have to change before and What is the best time to arrive and leave before I leave for returning help is the first time and the car I carry is for rent I can leave before and use public transport or as ???
Hello, Lois, let's solve those doubts. First, from Cancun to the free zone, put on 5 hours and a half, who does it in three hours must go by all the speed controls and bouncing his head on the roof of the car in all stops.
Once you get through Bacalar, it's as easy as following Chetual and following the signs to the Belize border. The free zone will see it well indicated, you can enter with your car and go out with it inside the place. Access procedures are simple, it is very common. At Easter, it's very busy, sometimes you get in line for more than an hour to get out of the free zone. Surely the best thing would be to arrive early in the free zone and leave before the 13.
Hopefully it serves you, any doubt we continue in it.
Hello Sandra, we at Xcalak offer the option of traveling by boat to San Pedro, Belize. I hope you come one day for the last small town in Mexico border with Belize and we are promotions, these guests of course ..
Hello Antonio, it's good to know that, I did not know that information. I was thinking of going to that area in June, I know Mahahual, but I was never in Xcalak, and I owe it to me. It will be great to know your services and give the information to travelers, perfect. We agree by mail.
A hug, see you soon.
Hello Antonio! I'm planning a trip just like the one you mention, from Xcalak to San Pedro. You could provide me with more information about the cost of the tour or some contact information ... thanks!
Hello Joss, I hope you see the message Antonio, but I answer for him that recently we talked and just told me the following: "Now the Navy has taken the captaincies and have been militarized, so trips to San Pedro are no longer possible ... .. only from Chetumal ... ». Antonio has a lodging in Xcalak, I pass the link to you in case you want to contact him directly: http://www.xcalakcaribe.com/
Warm regards,
Hello, Thank you very much for the information, I have a question, I want to do the Mayan route from My country, starting in Chiapas. I live on the Mexico CD so I have to take a plane to get there. The route would end in Tikal, so I thought I could cross Belize (because if I return to Mexico through Guatemala, my airport would be Palenque and it's almost 7 hours)
It would be from Tikal, I went through Belize and then to Mexico to get to Chetumal and I took advantage of staying a couple of days in Bacalar. But the fact of crossing 3 countries I do not know how problematic and expensive it is, can you support me? thank you
Hello Mariana, what a cool trip, wait for you 🙂
The border is time, and as you say money, but maybe it fits better as well. To help you decide I'll tell you more or less about the summary payments: In Mexico, you do not pay when you enter, you do pay when you leave if you have been more than 7 days in Mexico: 332 mxn. At the entrance to Belize you do not pay, you will do it at the exit of the country, some 40 usd, if you have stayed more than 24 hours in the country. There are no fees in Guatemala. From Flores (Tikal) you can find tourist transport to get to Belize, something that facilitates border paperwork to go as a group.
Good way Mariana!
Hello Sandra! We hope you are very well, excellent your information! We are two Mexican university travelers and we want to go from Chetumal to Corazal, we have a couple of questions waiting for you to help us.
1.- How to get from Chetumal to Corozal by bus cheaply and what timetables are there?
2.- How often are there buses from Corozal to Chetumal and what are their prices?
3.- One of us does not have a passport but we only want to visit Corozal for 4 hours and return to Chetumal, could I enter without problem, or do I need a passport?
4.- If we only visit approximately 4 hours after leaving Belize, do we need to pay the 40 dollars or do we respect the time limit?
We appreciate your help, greetings from Puebla, Mexico.
Hi Eilon, let's see how far we resolve:
1 and 2- There are combis, collective taxis and a large bus, but I do not know the schedules. I recommend you contact ADO in Puebla and inform them of their schedules and prices in this area. Taxi and collective vans leave near the terminal of the ADO, they are frequent and habitual services. I leave the phone number of ADO Chetumal + 52 (983) 832-9877
3- If you go to the Free Zone, you do not need a passport, for Corozal I'm not sure how you handle it. Next to the Free Zone, between borders, there is a zone of casinos, where the Mexican usually crosses without needing a passport. I'm sorry to send you back to your own embassy for an answer. I hope you explain your experience to leave it here noted for other travelers.
4- Less than 24 hours you do not pay the exit fee, it is correct.
I'm sorry I do not have more excates answers.
Best regards guys,
Hello,
We travel to Belize in our own car and we will cross in Chetumal, we want to take the dog, we would be like 5 days in Belize on vacation, what do we need for the dog to go through customs without problems?
Thanks for the support !
Hello Yvonne, I leave you the blog of some guys who travel with their dogs where you can get this information or write them. In fact I have it as a reference for when we go on a trip with our dog, that has to be a cool one. http://dfushuaia.com/web/2013/01/viajar-con-perro/
I hope it serves you, that you have a very good path.
Hello Sandra very valuable all the information you provide us, I wanted to make a query, I want to travel from Ecuador to Belize more exactly placencia, I would like to travel in the most economical way either by land or by air, you can help me informing me what would be the route more direct and cheap please, on the other hand I tell you that I have an option to work in the field of tourism and I would like to know how difficult it is to obtain work permits or if there are not many obstacles to respect?
I appreciate your information
Best regards
Hi Fabio, nice to say hello.
Really, as well as Mexico I know him more in the legal and labor field, because it is where I live, of Belize I do not have that knowledge to give you accurate answers. Regarding the cheapest route from Ecuador to Belize, I do not know the cheapest way either. I pass a website to quote the flight, I would not know how to tell you by road. http://www.jetcost.es/vuelos-quito-belize+city.html Plasencia arrives ferry from Honduras, this journey costs about 55 usd with the company D-Express. I think that in a travel agency in Ecuador you can be better served to quote the travel price.
Warm regards,
I plan to travel from Belize to Honduras for water, I have been looking for information and I can not find about fares, schedules and documentation, this in case there is such a route, I would appreciate help with the information, since traveling by land and in my own car It makes very risky to go through Guatemala, since I would travel with my wife and daughter, I thank you in advance for your help.
Hello Enrique, if I remember correctly, Plasencia leaves for Honduras. I found a ferry company where you can sure find the information you need: http://www.aboututila.com/TravelInfo/Belize-Honduras-Ferry/index.htm
I hope it will help you to finish planning your trip.
best regards,
I want to return to my house (Pto Cortes) for Belize from Mérida. Can you give me a sea route that does not take me more than 24 hours and not pay those 40 USD? Thanks
I know that from Placencia there is a ferry to Pto Cortes, yes ... but from Chetumal to Placencia, what I want is to travel by sea alone ... will it be possible? Or make my return by land and sea ?? Porfaaa !!!
Hello Rina, I am afraid that traveling only by sea does not give you time to save yourself from those 40 usd, there are no connections that allow it from Chetumal. There are no connections that allow it. Surely the best option would be to go from Mérida in ADO to Belize City, which arrives on the 3: 30 am, continue to Plasencia or Dandriga by bus, and from there take the ferry that you say goes to Pto Cortés.
I leave one of the companies that give the ferry service for you to watch schedules and days that operate, which are not daily between Plasencia or Dandriga and Pto. Cortés. You can contact them: http://www.guidetobelize.info/en/travel/belize-water-taxi-timetable-guide.shtml
I hope you can, kind regards.
Hello Sandra,
If we stay in Mexico just seven days, and the seventh we go by plane to Europe, we would have to pay that rate? I would be very angry to have to pay for just one day! 😉
Thanks for your response and for your very interesting blog. regards
Hello Duna, I understand that less than 7 days you should not pay the fees. Air tickets sometimes carry the taxes included, comment it at the airport in this case, but you will pay the same. If you do not have them included, they will tell you to pay them surely, then you tell them to stay for less than 7 days.
You'll tell me if you had problems, please.
Thanks, best regards.
Hello
My family and I are going from El Salvador to Playa del Carmen Mexico. You can help me with the information to travel by car through the borders of Belize and Mexico.
Thank you
Hello Juan Francisco, the car must be in your name, that is the main requirement. I also believe that as Salvadorans you are going to require a visa in Belize and Mexico. If you read the information carefully you can solve your doubts. If you have any specific doubt, I'll gladly resolve it.
Greetings and very good trip,
good afternoon I travel from Guatemala City to Belize then to Playa del Carmen, I found out that you have to get a permit to enter the vehicle to Mexico, this permit is taken to the border, help please.
Hello Sharon, honestly I do not know anything about a special permit to enter Mexico, what you should be is the vehicle in your name. If you ask for insurance, which I do not remember now, you can certainly take it out on the border, just like in Belize.
I'm sorry I do not have more detail on the subject.
Regards,
Good morning, we are from Argentina, we will be in Cancun, then we want to move to Belize, we plan to make it one Saturday, customs attend the weekends? What are the opening hours?
Hello Lila, that's right, Saturday is open, the hours are in the article, that border opens 24 hours. But I recommend you cross in the morning, and not on Sunday because it is not open to buy the obligatory insurance of Belize.
Greetings and very good trip?
Hello Sandra, I am currently in Belize, I think I was around for 3 months, which is the visa that they approved for me and I want to do some shopping and they told me that in the free zone they were selling some cheap things to take to my family of memories. I am Cuban and we are limited by knowing that we have a Cuban passport. I have friends in Mexico that tell me that there is no problem that I buy there, even that I can go to see Mexico but I do not have any doubts and I do not want to have problems with the authorities of there because I heard statements from some Cubans who have problems there, here is my question I can go to the free zone, what documents to bring, I can visit my friends in Mexico or they can come and see me. Many thanks for your time and I hope find an answer on this blog
Hello Pedro,
If you go from Belize to the free zone, you do not have your passport stamped, it does not count as an entrance to Mexico or exit from Belize, but you go to an area like free transit, of shops. What is the Free Zone? It is a commercial zone free of taxes where the Mexican usually travels to buy at cheaper prices products such as alcohol, tires or brand clothing. To go here you do not need to do paperwork, just take your documentation (IFE / INE) in order, you do not need to show your passport if you are Belizean or Mexican. As a foreigner it does not count as an entrance in the other country, it is free transit.
Honestly I do not know if Cuban friends have problems when they cross the free zone, try to find out with your Cuban friends this topic.
Your Mexican friends only presenting the IFE / INE can spend 24 hours in the free zone.
I hope it serves you, good luck Pedro.
Hello Goodnight,
I have planned a trip to Easter in Cancun, I will leave Guatemala in my own car and I plan to go through Belize, then Corozal border and head to Cancun.
My companions and I have a visa (some only Regional visitor card to enter the border states of Mexico), I have title to my car (in my name), circulation card and passports.
You help me; Do you know what are the procedures to be able to pass through both Belize and Mexico with my vehicle?
Greetings from Guatemala.
Hello Alysist,
What do you need? Passport, driver's license, traffic card / vehicle registration certificate. Take copies of all this, they will ask for them at the border. In Belize you must take out insurance for circulation, you do it at the border.
In the article is the information that you want to complete.
Good trip,
Hola!
First of all thank you for all this data and your blog.
We wanted to consutlarte two things:
1) Can you enter Tikal with car type 4am to see the sunrise or leave the car at the entrance to the park, or should you leave Flores in a transport?
2) Is it very complex to get Belize insurance on a Sunday? (We plan to cross Sunday morning and spend the day in Blue Hole)
Thank you!
Hi Tomás, a pleasure to be able to cooperate with other travelers 🙂
1- I can not help you with that, I have not been to Tikal for a long time. The last one we had the possibility of entering before dawn paying more and leaving by transport from Flores, but I really do not know how it is now.
2 - it was somewhat cumbersome to get the insurance on Sunday. We had to go near Orange Walk near a gas station, there they did the procedure, but the person was sleeping at home, with a hangover. It took a few hours with all the mess, but we resolved. If you get caught without insurance, it's worse, at security checkpoints they always look at you. The fact is that it is achieved, but it is cumbersome. At the border they give you options, but bear in mind that, on Sundays some have trouble breathing.
Good trip,
Hi Sandra, how are you? I hope you can answer the questions that came up when reading this post. I plan with my boyfriend to go on vacation to Playa del Carmen, Bacalar and the whole area, but before we would love to know Caye Caulker and San Pedro, we want to cross from Chetumal in our own car, but we have a little doubt about the safety of the vehicle, that we have read that we must be very careful and although we have investigated as crazy, we have not found any post, vlog or anything like that about the experience of crossing from Chetumal to Belize in own car and being Mexican. I would love if you could tell me something about security (being 2018 already) since I could read the costs of departure, the necessary documents and everything that includes the trip.
I would greatly appreciate it.
Hello Aleidy,
We have crossed on a couple of occasions from Chetumal to Belize and we have never had an inconvenience on the road, other friends also did it without any inconvenience, the last one less than a year ago. Several Mexican friends have spoken to me with fear, but the truth is that nobody with foundation or experience. Take into account: there is almost no road lighting, secondary roads are dirt roads and roads are good, some narrow, and curvy. Do not drive at night, especially because you can not see anything of how dark it is.
If you want to go to Cayo Caulker or San Pedro, we leave the car in a guarded parking lot, without problems. We went to Tobacco Cay, but the experience sure is similar. By ferry I do not know if you can cross with a car, I asked a friend from Chetumal if he had experience in that, and he told me that either.
If you only go to Cayo Caulker and San Pedro, you can leave the car in guarded parking in Chetumal, it is a good option too.
I hope you cheer up. If I could tomorrow I would cross again by car to Belize.
Greetings travelers,
Hi Sandra, thanks for all the tips you give, they are very helpful.
I read that you have left your car in some parking lot with surveillance in the city of Belize, while you are going to walk to the keys. Do you happen to have the address of the parking lot in Belize? Thank you
Hi Richard,
I expressed myself wrong surely, yes we have left the car but not in Belize City, but in Dangriga. I can not think of anyone to ask about Belize City. Anyway, we left it in the parking lot of the boatmen who crossed us to Tobacco Cay. We saw it well and we left very quiet. I think there are hotels that help you with that, even the ferry company could ask. I'm sure you find a solution, too bad I can not help you anymore.
Good trip Richard,
Hello Sandra, I hope you find yourself very well, in January of this year I will travel with my best friend to Chetumal and we want to go to the CD. from Belize to visit The Great Blue Hole. We are Mexican and we would like to ask you; What recommendations could you give us? Is it safe to travel with only two women? And what do you suggest to get to Belize? All this considering that we would only be two people looking for the most economical option besides comfortable, with the best travel experience.
I would really appreciate it if you could advise me on this adventure that we have planned, I send you a greeting.
Hello Paola, it's good that you venture to Belize.
To go to the Blue Hole excursions from Cayo Caulker or San Pedro, then it would be good to go by boat from Chetumal to these keys, so you do not have to go by bus and go to Belize City, which is not highly recommended. I link some opinions I found on trip advisor about the trip to the Blue Hole, I think you can be useful. On more than one occasion I've heard that going by boat does not give you much to be a heavy excursion where little is appreciated the place, they recommend to go by plane, but it is expensive. https://www.tripadvisor.es/ShowTopic-g291959-i1455-k9153492-Gran_Agujero_Azul-Belize.html
You only go to the Blue Hole? If so, I think it would be best for you.
I hope you serve the idea a little.
Best regards, adventurous 🙂
Best regards Sandra, and thank you very much for all the information you have provided. Unfortunately, it is hard to find information about Belize, and I have found a lot here.
We are 4 people: a couple of adults and two minor nieces who want to arrive by plane to Belize, visit the cays, some place of indigenous deposits and then go to Chetumal, Tulum, Cancun and Chichen Itza.
That's why I would like to ask you some questions:
1. Based on the itinerary, what would be the most economical way to transport the trip? Rent a vehicle (thinking of avoiding trips to places a little farther in Belize and Chichen Itza) and transfer it to
Mexico, traveling in ADO, water transport or smaller buses with shorter journeys?
2. Do you know of any additional documents that are requested for minors?
3. Which beach or cayo you recommend for a couple of days of a family that is calm and cheap in Belize, since I have seen that the prices are higher there?
4. The payment of the departure from Belize are 40 US dollars or 40 Belizean dollars? I understand that an American dollar is worth two Belizean dollars and in other places I have read that 40 Belizean dollars are paid.
Thank you in advance for your help
Hello, Lucho, happy to help with my experience.
1- Being 4 people, the car is great, I'm not sure if it's the cheapest, it's a matter of looking at it with affection. I do not know if there are car rental agencies in Belize that allow you to drive to Mexico, if it is not possible you will have to rent a car in Belize, cross to Mexico and rent another one in Chetumal. It is not clear to me where you go back to go back home, something important to help you. In Chetumal you can rent a car and move around Mexico https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/consejos-conducir-peninsula-yucatan/ From Belize you can cross to Mexico by ferry, more comfortable, although going by bus is cheaper. In Mexico, public transportation is much better than in Belize.
2-If you are nieces, minors and you do not have custody, I understand that you must go with a permit from the legal guardians. but talk to the embassy, these very specific issues better consult directly.
3-We choose Tobbacco Key, the most economical, very small and great. We went from Dangria, when you book the hotel they tell you how to go, it's simple.
4-American dollars, yes. I do not think I'm confused.
We Lucho plan routes for travelers, in case you are interested in this service contact by mail and I will explain. Obviously any doubt or specific guidance we solve it by this means. A pleasure.
Warm regards,
Hello! We are a family and we want to leave Beltumal to Belize to enter Guatemala, how many hours are approximately? The road is safe? When you say what you have to pay for the insurance and I think that a fumigation also the price you mention is American dollars or Belizeans? Thanks for your comments help us to have a better panorama ...
Hello Gray,
From Chetumal, without counting the time of procedures, calculates some 4 hours to the border of Guatemala. The roads are narrower than usual, do not look like main roads, but they are safe to my way of thinking. I advise you to cross early and always drive during the day. We have done this journey several times, without any problem. I put the prices with the reference of the currency: MX Mexican pesos, USD usd ...
It is a nice journey. Buying insurance is compulsory and brings you problems if you do not buy it, really, even if only passing through Belize.
Good trip,
Hello Sandra, a questioner
To be in Belize as a tourist, you only get 30 days? Or are there longer periods? When leaving Belize to Mexico (place of residence) how long must it take to be able to enter Belize again?
regards
Hello Mayra,
As a standard stay are 30 days, insurance you can ask for an extension as usually happens in most countries, the embassy of Mexico or Belize should give you the information (in several countries as a foreigner I have lengthened my visa without inconvenience in the country where I was ). To return to Belize I understand that you must stay between 48 and 72 hours, and you could return to Belize. As I usually say, there are movements in non-habitual borders that raise suspicions if you enter and leave repeatedly, only that to take into account, that they ask you more at the border.
Best regards Mayra.
Hello Sandra. Thank you for all the info.
In immigration, Mexico told me that the easiest way to extend the visa to my parents was to go through Belize. We would leave from Playa del Carmen. I was seeing that the first town is called Corozal. Do you recommend me to stay in Corozal? My parents are very old so I do not want to put them on a long journey in Bus. I do not know if I should be 1 or 2 days to get the extension of the stay.
Hi Yaya, yes, in Corozal you find hotels and it's quiet. So you do not have to do much, as you say, it's enough. It has a nice walk and services. The extension I'm not sure, I think it was 48 hours. I hope you can say it to me on your return, we will surely help others in your situation.
Have a good trip, any information you write to me and I try to support you.
Warm regards,
Hello Sandra ... I want to help you I will travel from Guatemala to Mexico through Belize and Chetumal. I will go by car. how much is paid per person when entering Belize and by vehicle. When you get to the Mexico Chetumal you have to pay for Mexico ... I'll travel to Playa del Carmen for 7 days I think you do not pay anything back to the border. .ahra well if my stay was 8 days or 9 days how much I have to pay to leave Mexico and then q payments to leave Belize to Guatemala ... Thank you. regards
Hi Edvin,
The information you are looking for is written in the article, the currency is also indicated: At the entrance to Belize is not paid, you will do it at the exit of the country, some 40 usd, if you have stayed more than 24 hours in the country. In Mexico you do not pay when you enter, you do pay when leaving if you have been more than 7 days in Mexico: 332 mxn (Mexican pesos) per person leaving by land. If you return to your country by plane from Mexico, you will have to pay the airport departure fees (55 euros) provided that a period of more than 7 days of stay in the country has elapsed.
About the information from Guatemala to Belize I link you another article where you can find the complete information for your trip: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/frontera-guatemala-melchor-mencos-belice-benque-viejo-requisitos/
If you do not find something in what you read, you tell me.
Have an excellent trip,
HELLO SANDRA, THANKS FOR ALL THIS INFORMATION
LOOK MY FAMILY AND I AM IN MERIDA YUCATAN, WE HAVE A TOURIST VISA FOR 10 YEARS AND EVERY 6 MONTHS MIGRATION ASKS US TO LEAVE MEXICO AND THEN RETURN TO ENTER, I WANTED ASK IF IT IS POSSIBLE INSTEAD OF LEAVING ON THESE HOLIDAYS CUBA, WE COULD GO TO KNOW BELIZE, SO WE ALREADY RESOLVE THE ACA STAY PERMIT IN MEXICO AND WE KNOW THAT BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY THAT IS BELIZE.
IN ADVANCE THANK YOU VERY MUCH AND I HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME WITH SOME INFORMATION
GREETINGS HANNY
Hello Hanny,
Of course, it is an excellent option to cross to Belize, to know the country and, in passing, to renew the visa. It will be the same as if you went to Cuba in the sense of renewal. From Merida you have a truck for Belize, you can get information in the ADO. If you are in a car you have the information to pass in the article.
If in something concrete I can help you tell me.
Greetings from Yucatan,
Hello Sandra
Next week I travel from Honduras to Cancun.
I have read all the comments and your great answers, thank you for your dedication.
I would like to know why you do not recommend staying overnight in Belize City.
Knowing the data you have provided us, if we are more than 24 hours within Belize, at the time of leaving, would we have to pay 40 US dollars or Belizeans?
Will it be cheaper to travel to San Pedro Island from Chetumal or from Belize?
Hello Jorge, a pleasure to be able to support from the blog in what we can 🙂
I do not recommend Belize City because several traveling friends, with which I share an even criterion, have told me that it is a difficult and rough city, that they have not felt at ease. If it were not because it is necessary to spend the night, they would have chosen another place.
It would be Belizean dollars that 40.
I do not know where it will be more expensive, the truth, I owe that to you.
I hope you have a good path Jorge.
Thank you very much Sandra. You are so friendly.
Well, I was looking for more information and it's three times more expensive from Chetumal to San Pedro than from Belize City to San Pedro.
Although in the map it is seen that they are at the same distance.
I hope someone else will give you the information.
Great Jorge, I will write down the information you give us in the writing, sure it is useful for the following along the way. Thank you.
Best regards, anything here we are.
Arrive at the Chetumal Belize border. Go through the immigration booth to seal the passport exit and entrance to Mexico. To obtain the 180dias as a tourist. I present my European passport and the uniform of the INM after a little while he calls me and tells me.
To seal you need to be three days in Belize and with the rental vehicle it will cost 100USD the entrance and another 100 the exit. Therefore, I advise that I talk to my supervisor and you pay me 3500 $ pesos to me and another 550 $ pesos to the bank in front and you can leave now.
I previously reported on the Internet on the page the shortest way and it was not at all as advised by the page.
Solution of the case: extortion directly by a totally corrupt uniformed the three that were there. Stealing with a plate is the exact term .. What a shame.
And another security uniformed man tells me. .. Do you want my phone number? And me for what? You are not a fancy having stolen .. I will never be there again ... Corrupt hustlers unhappy thieves .. I wish I had told you ..
So be very careful if you have to do this process .. The place is perfect to steal your money ..
If you are in Mexico ... Better go to Cuba or Miami at least enjoy it .. E not fall into the hands of those corrupt ... ENDLESS SHAME ...
Go panda of thieves, I'm sorry what happened to you, are things that totally bother you the trip because of corrupt. There are travelers who know first hand that they have been only 48 hours to get the stamp again, and regarding the rental car you do not have to pay more. There are very few companies that rent a car to go to Belize because you need special permission, yes.
Thanks for the comment, it will be a warning and advice for other travelers. Personally in several borders of the area, those of Guate likewise, have tried to get us out of more, not many others, depending on who touches you. If we see other reports like yours, we will notify you from the blog.
Thanks for sharing Erik your bad experience, feel very bad what happened.
Hello ! Sandra
I am Colombian I am going to travel to Belize and from there I will go to Cancun by car and my flight back to Colombia leaves from Cancun, do you know if they put a problem in my way? and they stamp my passport?
Thank you!
Hi Daniela, whenever you cross a border you must seal your passport. In your case, being Colombian, you do not need a visa to enter Mexico. For Belize I think so. Any other doubt here you find me
Warm regards,
Hello ! Sandra another question, what day do you recommend more to cross the border, between weekdays or weekends? Thanks 🙂
Hi Daniela, the questions that are necessary, of course.
Any day less on Sunday, on Sundays the booth to buy the insurance is closed, you end up getting the paper, but it is more complicated.
Good way 🙂
Hello Sandra !! Thanks for your answers…
I have another doubt when going from Mexico to Belize in a rental car there is a problem ?? The person who will rent it in Mexicana.
There are few companies that allow the rental car to pass. In the article you find the information yourself, in the section "can you cross to Belize by rental car?" I'm talking about the car rental companies that I know that allow you to do that, they are few. The nationality of the one who rents is not important. If you have doubts when reading it, you write me.
Best regards Daniela,
Hello Sandra. A question. Is there a danger on the Chetumal - Belize City route? Clara, I would try to travel only by day.
You can send me mail losperez55@gmail.com
Hello Oscar, the times I have traveled on that road I did not have problems, nor do I report anything significant that I know of. Belize hardly has light on the roads, travel by day if you go by car, even if your option is to go by bus. Remember if you go by car, take out your road insurance for the car, it is mandatory.
Good trip,
Hi. Can I enter Belize by car with federal license plates from Mexico?
Hi David, I would not know how to answer you with certainty, what is certain is that the car must be in your name or have permission from the owner. I imagine there are no problems with the federal plates, but I can not say.
Regards,
Hello Sandra, to be able to enter Belize for Chetumal with my car that I must present and if I have the invoice endorsed in my name and the circulation card in the name of the previous owner but still valid, is there a problem?
Hello Arcelia, I am sorry but I do not know how to specify what you are asking me.
I know, because this happened to us, that if the car is not in your name you need the written permission of the person who appears as the owner of the circulation card. Try writing to the embassy of Mexico. I hope you can solve to go more calm.
Good trip,
Hello, I was very interested in the answers to your blog and I want to ask you a question. I'm going to go through Belize, but from there we go to Cancun, it's very complicated to do land migration? Because we will cross by bus we are also studying the possibility of going to shetumal by ferry and from there by bus to Cancun. What we question the most is the issue of migrating from the Mexican side.
I thank you very much for your attention and I look forward to your response
Hello Virginia, the two options are valid to cross from Belize to Mexico, by sea or land the same requirements are required, the usual ones in any border, simple if everything is in order. I do not finish to understand to what difficulties you refer in the migration of the Mexican side, to be able to support you better. Once in Chetumal you can take the bus to Cancun, which takes about 6 hours.
Warm regards,
Hello, have you heard if there is a problem with the passage from Belize to Mexico for Venezuelans?
Hi Jose, to our website have come comments from Venezuelans who have had difficulties to go to Mexico, but I do not know how to give more concrete information. The best of luck to you.
Hello a pleasure to read you. A question. We go on vacation to Playa del Carmen from here in the center of the country. Do you recommend shopping in Belize? Apart from knowing other borders. We would also like to go to Tikal as you mention in your post. Is it very difficult to get there? It would be by bus. And how expensive would it be. To take advantage and get to know Belize and Guatemala at the same time.
Hello Vanne, sorry for the delay, I was on vacation.
If you are not going to buy several products like alcohol, tires and other specific brand things, I do not think it's worth going to the free zone.
About Tikal there is a company that goes by bus from Chetumal to Tikal, I pass your website to ask you prices if you are interested in that trip: http://marlinespadas.net/ They also offer private tours, but insurance is another price. The best thing is to talk directly with them and leave doubts.
I wish you an excellent trip. Any doubt is at your disposal.
Good to all, I wanted to tell you my case since I read the whole thread of this post. Doing accounts to renew my tourist visa to follow other 180 days I planned a weekend in Belize, in Sarteneja, the cheapest place to sleep that I have found in different ways. I had planned between taxes of exit and entrance of Mexico and Belize about 1500 $, to that I added the 800 $ of the stay plus transfers and others .... The truth is that I wanted to know Belize and live that adventure of 48 hours I wanted to have. Well, when I arrived at the Belize border with Chetumal the agent asked me directly for 3k + entrance tax, to which I told him that with 3k5 I was going to the weekend and when I got back I had money left over, he made a call to the agent who was in the booth after the control and finally they lowered it to 2k5 with all taxes included. I think it has not gone as expensive as other people I know who have paid 4k ... Thank you very much for all the comments!
Thank you very much for your comment, insurance helps other travelers your experience. I understand that they were Belizean agents, right? This tax is illegal, the prices that are on our page is what it should be. Personally, I have had to pass more than one border paying more, something that I have fought more or less according to the border, the mood and the situation. Agents and corruption unfortunately go hand in hand.
Thanks again for your valuable experience.
Warm regards,
Good morning, we are a couple who will be in Bacalar and we want to go on 8 Friday in 2019 from chetumal to colozal airport to go by plane to san pedro-belice. Query: what are the means of transport and their prices ($ Mexican or dollars) to do that route and departure times from Chetumal to the airport of heart, thank you very much
Hi Marcelo, what a good plan. Unfortunately I do not have that information about schedules and transport prices to the airport, you can go by taxi from Chetumal, but I do not know what they charge. The ADO bus does not stop in Chetumal to go to Belize, this company does have a stop in Chetumal: http://marlinespadas.net/. Another option is to go in taxiboat from Chetumal to Cayo Caulker, from here you also do tours by plane to Blue Hole.
I'm sorry I do not have the most accurate information.
Warm greetings and good path,
Hello Sandra, Good afternoon. Do you know if the border is open on Sundays, to return from Belize to Chetumal? Thanks for your information
Hi, Angie, it's open on Sundays, no problem with that.
Good trip 🙂
Hello Sandra, I hope you are well! At the end of April I would be traveling to Mexico, Cancun, and then go about 7 days to Belize. What is the best way to get to Belize? I was reading and I saw the ADO bus, is it better to go to Belize City direct or get to Chetumal and from there by boat to San Pedro or Cayo Caulker? the boat option where do they come from? and can you check out the tickets online?
I hope you can help me!! greetings from Argentina
Hello Yesica, the ADO is the only thing that arrives in Belize City at dawn, by boat you avoid those schedules. You must take the ferry from Chetumal, it's simple. I leave your website for you to see schedules and prices, I hope it is useful. http://www.belizewatertaxi.com/
Have a nice trip, best regards to Argentina.
Hello Sandra,
Thank you very much for all the information, but I have a question.
Santa Elena and Corazal is the same city? is that a friend told me that in Santa Elena she found several interesting shops, but the information I find on the internet speaks only about the Belize free zone in Corazal.
Thank you
Hello Claudia, They are not the same city. Santa Elena is located in Mexico, is the small city bordering Belize where there are many shops and the so-called free zone. Corozal is in Belize, a few kilometers from the border. I do not know if your doubt is clarified.
Warm regards,
Hi Sandra I have a doubt, I am Cuban but I reside in Mexico for more than 2 decades, my doubt is the following I have gone to the free zone multiple times but now I want to travel to San Pedro and know more in Belize, I need a visa for that or just my passport.
very good page I congratulate you
Hi Ariel, if you are naturalized as a Mexican, that means having a Mexican passport, you do not require a visa to enter Belize in stays less than 30 days. If you reside in Mexico with your permanent residence but your passport is Cuban, you do require a visa. The passport we have is the one that marks if we need a visa. Any questions you tell me and I try to support you. More information: https://www.embajadadebelize.org/belice/pasaporte-y-visas.php#.XaiWAehKjcs
Enjoy Belize Ariel very much 🙂
Thank you for your advice and clear explanation. I have a question, a Guatemalan person can apply for a temporary visitor card at the border of Belize and Mexico. Can it be done on a Sunday? Will you know how long the process takes?
Very kind for your comments
Hi Rolando, I'm sorry I have no answer to your question. I advise you to contact the Guatemalan embassy to be able to advise you well. Best regards,
Hello! I loved your article, we plan to travel in July, we have planned it flying to Guatemala from Mexico, from there to visit Antigua, Atitlán and Flores and then from there cross overland to Belize and visit San Ignacio and Plasencia from where we would return by ferry to Mexico. My question is by chance you will know if it is possible to enter Guatemala without a return ticket, since the return would be via Belize not Guatemala and on the other hand if you could recommend or inform us about possible transport and routes from Flores (Guatemala to San Ignacio in Belize ) Thanks a lot for any guidance you can provide me.
regards
Hello Rebecca, in three days I return home and I answer you calmly. Cheers,
Hello Rebecca, if you travel from Europe to any country in America you must always have an entry ticket and an exit ticket, whatever the country of arrival and departure. So you can enter Guate if you show an exit ticket even if it is for another country. Did I explain myself?
About Flores-San Ignacio it will be very easy when you get to Flores to see all the offers in the different agencies. I leave you an article where we explain different ways to go from Flores to San Ignacio so that you can plan: https://www.elcaminomascorto.es/frontera-guatemala-melchor-mencos-belice-benque-viejo-requisitos/
Any questions here you find me.
Have a great trip 🙂
Hello how am I Ingrid from Cdmx, here is my question, I am going to travel with a Japanese man who does not speak any Spanish, do you have some information about Japanese, even to enter the free zone, do we need paperwork and everything? Thank you ???
Hi Ingrid, how are you? To enter the free zone from Mexico, your friend does not need a visa, as far as I know. Because from Mexico you can enter and leave the free zone the same day without doing the entry formalities to Belize. If you enter Belize, the Japanese do need a visa, I think, and it must be obtained before. Here the link of nationalities that do NOT need a visa https://www.embajadadebelize.org/belice/pasaporte-y-visas.php#.XrLdJahKjcs
I hope it helps you. Have a great trip?♀️
Hello Sandra, I am Honduran but I have permanent residence in Mexico, my question is if I need a visa to enter Belize even if I am a resident of Mexico? Thanks I wait for your answer
Hello Carlos how are you? Even if you have permanent residence in Mexico (the same is my case), if we travel to another country it is our nationality that rules. Your departure from Mexico as a resident does not imply any payment, but you enter Belize as a Honduran. According to the Belize website (https://www.embajadadebelize.org/belice/pasaporte-y-visas.php#.XrYdhWhKjcs), you do not need a Honduran visa for a 30-day tourist stay. Look at the website to have complete information for your trip.
I hope the answer serves you, good way.
Hello, I would like to know if when I cross land by public transport, my immigration passport is sealed? I would be interested to have the Belize stamp on my passport
Hello Hugo, they do stamp the passport on migration, both when entering and leaving Belize. Same in Mexico.
Greetings, good trip
Hi Sandra, good afternoon. I hope you know some information about my question.
I am Cuban with Permanent Residence in Mexico. I am about to travel to Chetumal and I would like to take the opportunity to visit the Belize Free Zone (only the free zone). Do you know if being Cuban with permanent residence helps me to be able to enter and leave the free zone the same day or is any procedure required?
Thanks in advance.
Hello Jose Carlos, foreign citizens who have the status of permanent resident in Mexico can access the Free Zone with our identification without problem, you do not need a passport (you can take it just in case).
Have a good trip ?
Hello Sandra, do you know if with the limitation of non-essential movement it is possible to cross the border back and forth at this time as a foreign tourist in Mexico?
Hi Luis. I understand that the land border with Belize and Guate is closed until April 21. Just in case, I can tell you that if you are going to extend the tourist visa, you must spend a minimum of 48 hours on your way out of Mexico.
Try calling customs to verify the information.
regards
Hi Sandra, good evening. I'm interested in knowing if you can still meet my request. I'll use your services for a trip from Cuba to Mexico
Hello Miriam, I'll give you my email in case you want to write to me and find out how I can help you sandra@elcaminomascorto.es
Regards,
Hello Sandra, I am going to enter the Cancun International Airport by plane and leave by land through the Santa Elena border crossing to Belize. Is it possible to enter the Cancun International Airport by air and leave by land through the Chetumal border crossing / Santa Elena to Belize or can they put me in trouble for having entered by plane?
Hi Kevin, you shouldn't get in trouble for that, can you enter by plane and leave by land?
From Europe, for example, when you fly to America, you must always have an inbound and outbound flight in less than a year: you can fly to Mexico and leave through Guatemala, Honduras, Brazil, Argentina ... the flight must always return, that is the only detail.
Any questions you tell me. Greetings and good way
Hello Laura, I am in the same situation as you, were you able to leave Mexico and re-enter without problems? If so, how long did you stay in Belize?
Thank you
You must be at least 48 hours if things have not changed. Greetings Toni
Hello Sandra, in advance I congratulate you for such a good blog, only Colombians and I plan to travel in the next few days to Cancun to rent a car and go to Belize, can we enter with a rented car? Is a visa required for Colombians? The border will already be open? How do you see our plan any recommendation from your experience? Thanks!
Hello Alejandro, sorry for the delay I'm traveling. Well, most of the answers you have in the written information: companies that rent a rental car that allow you to go to Belize, you can still ask if Colombians need a visa. I think the border is open, but I'm not sure. We really liked the San Ignacio area, Tobacco Cay was also a place that we loved. The part of Plasencia perhaps the least. There is a lot of nature, caves, rivers ... Belize is very cool. The only thing I recommend is not handling your anger.
Very nice trail
Hello, do you have information if the land borders are open Belize - Mexico?
Hello Celestino, I tried to find the information for you but I am not 100% sure that it is open, although I think it is.
Hello, this is August 2023, I live in Playa del Carmen and I would like to go with my partner to Belize by car.
Do you consider that it is safe to do that route, today? Or is it better to enter/tour Belize in another way?
Thanks in advance
We are concerned about insecurity and bites at customs
Hello Anna, how are you? I have not had current news for a couple of years from a friend or traveler who has been in Belize traveling by car, so I don't know how to give you a sure answer. Belize, like other countries as part of Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua…. always has its problems. If you are going to take the pertinent precautions before any trip. At customs, agents sometimes take their bite out, that's always happened. For me they are not dangerous situations, they are unpleasant situations.
Sorry I can't provide you with more information. greetings travelers
Hi, nice to meet you, sorry. I plan to go to Tulum in January from Guatemala through Belize and enter the border with Mexico. My question is if I can enter only with the TVR and passport to Quintana Roo, and if there is bus transportation from Belize to Tulum. Thank you.
Hello Lenin, you need a passport and a visa (the visa depending on your nationality) to cross borders, I don't know what the TVR is. From Belize City to Mexico there is transportation to Chetumal. From Chetumal you can go by bus to Tulum, no problem.
Good trip,
