We recommend for your trip the 5 archaeological zones of Yucatan that you must visit on your vacation. The 5 jewels that we highlight in Yucatan Do you want to know them?
Yucatan is a state rich in ancient Mayan culture, with some of the most notable archaeological sites. When we talk about Yucatan, Chichén Itzá, the Wonder of the Modern World and Cultural Heritage of Unesco, comes to mind.
There are several beautiful archeological sites in Yucatan that await you during your visit. We hope you enjoy your way through Mayan lands.

THE 5 ARCHAEOLOGICAL ZONES OF YUCATAN THAT I WOULD NOT MISS
In the years that we have been living on the Peninsula we have been able to visit many archaeological sites in Yucatan, the best known as well as the other treasures that remain in the shadow of the great ones. We look forward to helping you with our experience in your visit to these beautiful lands.
There are 16 archaeological zones from Yucatan for payment than the INAH administers: Chichen Itza, Uxmal, Ek Balam, Dzibilchaltún, Kabah, Loltún, Xcambó, Mayapán, Sayil, Labná, Aké, Xlapak, Acanceh, Oxkintok, Balankanché and Chacmultún. (You find them in our blog in case you are interested in looking for one in particular).
And don't miss the 5 Mayan cities in Mexico most impressive
1-Chichen Itza
The star that takes all the lights is Chichén Itzá, the 7 Wonder of the Modern World, is a must for those of us who visit this land. An enclosure with simply impressive buildings, built evoking the astronomical and scientific knowledge of ancient Maya, a chulada
- THE BEST: Understanding and appreciating the knowledge of the Maya when building cities and buildings As a great example the temple of Kukulcán, which is imposing and a symbol of Mayan knowledge.
- WORST: the number of people who visit it. Many would say how many merchants are in the area.

2-Ek Balam
La beautiful Ek Balam, a very complete city to enjoy details, views, steles and emblematic buildings. The building we know as the Acropolis, we see the impressive stucco entrance to the tomb of Ukit Kan Lek Tok '. Awesome.
- THE BEST: "in the small pot is the good jam ”, Ek Balam is a candy in every way
- WORST: Large buses arrive from 10 in the morning, it is not massive either.

3-Uxmal
For me the great Uxmal is the jewel of Yucatan, and without discussion the jewel of the Puuc architectural style. An exquisite architecture and elaboration, a place of exact, balanced lines that speak to you alone. Every time I visit Uxmal I get to see more details and beauty, it freaks out.
- THE BEST: its sublime architecture that we can appreciate in each of its buildings and as a whole.
- WORST: There is not much shade to rest, so you better avoid the hottest hours in summer.

4-Mayapán
Mayapán is a surprise for those who don't know her much, its similarity with Chichen Itza It makes it unexpected. It was one of the last archaeological sites in Yucatán to reach the final decline of the Mayan civilization, just before the arrival of the conquerors in the 16th century.
- THE BEST: a small size where you can appreciate the global area of Mayapán. You can climb the greater temple of about 24 meters and appreciate the landscape from the heights. Do not miss the engravings and the fresco of the Mayan diver 😉
- WORST: There are few shadows to rest in the enclosure, everything is very bad.

5-Oxkintok
Oxkintok is another bonbon within the Yucatan archeological zones that is not well known. It is very close to Mérida, on the way to Campeche, for us it is a fixed stop if you pass through this area. Oxkintok keeps unique treasures such as the Mayan labyrinth, which despite being closed to the public, is a cultural gem to appreciate.
- THE BEST: It is not very visited and you can explore the area with the tranquility that we do not get in more tourist areas.
- WORST: I may not have the spectacular that others offer, personally I love this place.

Tips for visiting the archeological sites of Yucatán:

WHAT TO BRING TO THE VISITS TO THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL AREAS OF YUCATÁN? In Yucatan, it is hot all year round, so we recommend the following: light and light clothing, a hat that covers your head and the neck well, closed and comfortable shoes to climb structures and protect you from insect bites. Carrying water always goes well, only in Chichen Itza they sell water inside the enclosure. Visits can last perfectly more than an hour and a half, hydrate continuously. Mosquito repellent and sunscreen if you are not well covered with clothing.
Lists are a way of providing information to visitors. For us each of the archaeological sites of Yucatan is a treasure. Hopefully enjoy your walk through these beautiful lands.
